Default Complete list of long action calibers...

Can someone give me a complete list of long action calibers? I goggled it and found some info but no real list. I do not need every single cartridge made just a through over all list would be great.

I better short action list would be nice also, I have one that is good enough.

Are you talking Remington 700 short action vs. long action or AR-15 vs AR-10 style short action vs. long action?

Or did I miss that?

I think he means 30-06 long action vs .308 is short action. Bolt guns.

Look up manufacturers sites, like savage and just start writing them down. You will get most.

That would be a heck of a list. Counting foreign cartridges I coud easily see that list being 1,000 entries long.

You're asking for one really huge list. And that's not even including obsolete or wildcat cartridges.

There's this... it has a lot, but it's very incomplete:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rifle_cartridges

No it doesn't differentiate between long or short action.

I cannot fully understand why everyone but xenophobe/21sf responded with absolutely nothing of value. Just snide comments from people who clearly have had long, grumpy days.

If there is no list, does that prevent you from at least attempting to help a guy out?

I don't see why we couldn't create, at a minimum, a list of *common* SA and LA ammunition. To make it easy on everyone, I'll start with what I know for certain:

SA
.243
.223
5.56
.300 Savage
.308

LA
30-06
7mm-08
7mm Remington Magnum

Snipers Hide has a pretty extensive list.

Sorry realized it'd be easier to just post it. No guarantees the list is anywhere near being complete.

7mm-08 is just a .308 winchester necked down to hold 7mm bullets. It is in fact a short-action cartridge, just like its parent.

I wasn't being snide, just honest.

Look at just 30 caliber long action cartridges.

.30 Newton
.30 RAR
.30-30 Winchester
.30-06 Springfield
.30-40 Krag (.30 Army)
.30-40 Wesson
.30-378 Weatherby Magnum
.300 H&H Magnum
.300 Remington Ultra Magnum
.300 Weatherby Magnum
.300 Winchester Magnum
.303 British
.308 Norma Magnum

Now add in 224, 243, 257, 264, 277, 284, .323, 338, 350, 366, 375, 390, 400, 412, 423, 425, 429, 450, 458, 465, 475, 500, 510, 525, 577, 600 and 700 calibers.
