Default S&W M&P 9mm VTAC

I went through a bunch of hoops to acquire this pistol and have it shipped to me, but I finally have it in my hands. I carry an M&P 9mm already so this weapon is familiar to me, although the sights are very different. I will be taking it to the range to break it in and check reliability with hollow points. My other one eats anything so I hope this one is the same.

I prefer Streamlight weapon lights but I love the FDE color of the X300U. It was on sale so I couldn't resist. Range report to follow!

Nice Bob, I have owned one in .40 for a while now. Around 2000 rounds fired, been a great gun. I like the sights, not great for target shooting but really good for fast run in gun. Also hit the lottery with the trigger, reset not the best but the pull is better then my Pro.

That sucks. Well, I bought it as a keeper and personal SD weapon. I'm not going to try to take advantage of the roster situation and sell it.

They had one as Quantico Tactical when I went a week or so ago. It has "hater-aid" all over it. Its that stinking FDE finish and sights that makes me want it. +1 on that FDE light. Where did you get yours by chance?

I bought mine on Gunbroker from Osage County Guns and they shipped it to my FFL.

This is a very pretty pistol and that's why my girls wanted me to keep it for them to shoot.

My only negative comment is that the FDE finish is easily worn. My Raven phantom holster is hard on the corners.

I have it in 40 but I got one that was part of a bad batch. Break on the trigger was heavy and terrible, mags would get stuck after the hitting the mag release. However it's been a dream to shoot after the full Apex trigger upgrade. The sights were difficult to hit bullseye at long range so changed it out to Trijicon HDs and is now much better at long range. It's my favorite to draw from a holster but it better be after investing so much into it.

I wouldn't consider this a big deal because it is going to be a "working gun" and will likely be carried and accumulate a high round count. However, the excellent Military Arms Channel review of this pistol had the same experience with finish loss on the edges from a kydex holster carry. I like the look of a gun that has a little seasoning to it. It only becomes an issue if I plan to sell it, which I don't.

I've experienced the same issues, especially the trigger and the stuck mags. Just wondering, how you resolved the mag issue?

Top dots are day glow and the bottom set are tritium. Actually looks like a good combo.

Issue still not resolved. I'm thinking about sending it back to S&W. First resolution were replacing the followers. S&W sent it out for free and it resolved two of my mags that had sticking issues but the others still have problems.

I believe S&W has used three different finishes on the VTAC sides before finally getting it right. First finish had problems with wear, second was too much of a gold color and third was the right color and a little more durable. But it will wear with use all do, color other then black will show more no way around it. The first run of the guns also had problems with the front sight being loose and the FO tubes falling out. S&W took awhile to get it right but they finally did.

The test fire date on my VTAC is 10-25-11, color match is very good and wear is holding up well, granted only a couple thousand fired but no noticeable wear on slide corners. Use a Fobus holster for range training and it is not a carry gun. Do use it as a HD gun stored in a fabric holster on a gun belt.

Shame S&W can't seem to get things right out of the gate too often and then have lapses in quality control.
I am interested in knowing the build time frames on the members guns with problems are they first gen guns or quality control lapses.

Good info, thanks for sharing. My VTAC has a test fire date of 2014 so hopefully all kinks are worked out. I have seen the tubes fall out of sights before so I am naturally distrustful of them, but hopefully these will stay put.

I bought mine in november brand new. Its easily my favorite 9mm. Ill be upgrading the trigger to the APEX Carry kit and ordering a nice kydex holster. My VTAC is my go to 9mm for training classes now. Other smiths I purchased are Compact 40 with 9mm conversion barrel, 45 full size, extra 9mm full size, and 22lr. LOVE them ALL!

Finish getting chipped, someone is a safe queen owner. All my guns have scratches and nicks from the holsters. Part of good training and heavy use.

I'm waiting for mine to arrive from Botach. I paid $199.99 with a hat haha. Ill post a pic once I get the goodies on it. Hey by the way has anyone tried the Raven Vanguard?

I love mine. Unfortunately I don't get to the range as often as I'd like. But when I do, I have a hard time leaving the VTAC at home.

That's a scorching deal for the light. I paid about $220 shipped IIRC.
