Default Shooting range @ Herndon and 99 in Fresno

I live really close to this area and I was told and have read that there is a range here on a couple occasions. My brother in law took a drive today and couldn't find it. We turned off Herndon at the street right before you go over the railroad tracks at Golden State. There is a private driveway with a no trespassing sign and a big gate and what looks like an equestrian type obstacle course. I got a google maps image:

The highway at the bottom left of the image is 99, the little road headed in is the one we were on and the only one that goes down that way. Is this what I'm looking for? How do I get in contact with these folks to shoot there? Help please!

Tim

I am pretty sure there is a training area for LEO somewhere in that area. It is right next to the SJ River and Riverside golf course. There is a day camp ground right next to it, I'll see if I can find more info.

I think that's the place then, I thought they allowed public access now that the LE agencies have their multi fuction training facility. Maybe someone else here can chime in and let us know?

That I would not know, I haven't been down there in 6-7 years and we never paid much attention to the place, we were there for the river access.

Not really....It's more of an LEO training range that gets used by others like NRA
class instructors. I have shot there in the past, but seldom go now because I
hate to be there when a group of Fuzz shows up. They don't like to shoot in front of civilians for some reason.

I went shooting there the other day. It is open to the public and open 24 hours a day. Great place to shoot. I don't get the same taste of unburned lead/gunpowder in my throat like shooting indoors.

As an update, since we shoot at this range a few times a month, it's still operating, the fee is still 50 bucks per year and that includes one shooting friend and there are three pistol stalls and one rifle stall (at lower left near the freeway in the overhead view). There's usually a range officer on duty but there have been some times when we're the only people there. On weekends, the wait can be a bit. Last time we were there on a Saturday, we sat around for about 30-40 minutes. There's a big box of used targets up by the building; we usually bring our own, essentially a couple of ripped 1x's about 5' long with some doubled corrugated stapled to them and the target attached to that. There's a low slotted concrete channel the wood stakes fit into.

The last time we were there a group of guys took over a pistol stall and the range officer kicked out everyone but the two who were shooting. So far, we've never had our membership checked when there. Pretty laid back.
