Default Writing my appeal letter for my CCW denial...

Well, As you might have read, i was denied by the Kern County SD for my CCW. I have no criminal record and have a utah permit already. my reason was:
"I live in Kernville and have to travel constantly for school to Los Angeles and often late at night. Due to the remoteness and lack of cell phone reception in the Kern River Canyon, I feel particularly at risk while traveling through this area and would like to be able to lawfully carry a concealed weapon for my own safety. I am also an avid outdoorsman and camper who spends lots of time alone in the wooded areas of the Sequoia National Forest, far from law enforcement, and feel that lawfully carrying a concealed weapon would keep myself safe from possible encounters with wild animals or criminals. For all of these reasons, I respectfully request that I be granted a concealed weapons permit. "

I recieved a letter of denial from the sergeant of the licensing div. that said "Your request does not meet the criteria showing good cause for issuing a CCW permit."

The lady in the office said to write an appeal letter to this person and elborate on my reason is good cause and i feel i should get the permit.

Now my question is:
what should i get into? Use the utah ccw and my high grades in school to show i am a responsible person even at my age? Add reasons like i sell on ebay part time and carry money and ship items? (i do have a BOE tax permit to prove this)....Or do i stick to my original reason and say self protection is good cause?
not sure which way i should take this.....any help would be nice

thanks,
eb

It'd probably piss the cop off and ruin your chances, but I'd ask him why self defense is good cause for HIM to carry a weapon. Elitist bastards.

include the money aspect. Also, was it the PD or the SD that denied it? if it was the PD, try just applying with the SD, cause thats how it works in Merced county (You apply to the Police, they deny, you take your denial and application to the Sheriff and get approved).

As for xrevxoltx idea, it would be great, but only if say you got it into a local paper or something that would print your letter.

Say you sell drugs and need to protect yourself from crackheads who need a fix.

Or say you sell junk off craigslist and you sometimes visit places you dont know.

Their rule is, unless you actually stick yourself out there to be vulnerable. They don't even consider you for CCW.

The problem is kern has always been easy. Older folks have used my reasons and gotten the permit. I can bet it is my age, thus the reason for needing to show cause based on carrying money. It was with the sheriffs office...

Your age certainly makes you suspect. They may think you want your CCW just to be kewl around your friends. I assume that isn't the case. Actually if you have a CCW you shouldn't even tell people you are carrying or could carry. Concealed is best concealed.

I wouldn't use your high grades in school as an argument since it reinforces the impression that you are young.

If you have an active BOE tax permit and can show that you have a history of making deliveries of goods to remote locations at night then that might help.

Just my 2 cents. I hope it helps.

First, visit www.californiaccw.org and read all the post and threads relating to appeal.

Second, I recommend that when you send in your appeal letter, you also include a PRAR and view their CCW permit holder record specially their good cause statement to compare with yours. You want to make sure your 14th Amendment rights of due process and equal protection is not being violated.
