Default Hatsan MP-A...for those that are interested

I think it is 922r compliant, but I don't really care to be honest. The stock is pinned so some numbnuts doesn't start screaming that the world is coming to an end because I have a semi-auto with an adjustable stock. Anywhoo, I think I've done about everything possible that can be done to a Hatsan MP-A:

Extended Mag tube; KA Flash Suppressor/Breacher; S&J Follower; CD Sidesaddle; ATI Hatsan Stock; Bushnell TRS-25

I like it.

I'm kind of surprised that ati makes a stock for the hatsan. I guess there are a lot of them out there .

How much did you shorten the lop?

Is the recoil pad a big improvement?

Do these guns cycle birdshot reliably ?

Thanks, I'm still on the fence about weather to buy one or not.

I like it too!

I'm also interested in the LOP...The factory stock is tad too long. Even for my ape arms.

Looks good! I have an ATI stock laying around that I've been wanting to pin. Honestly, I may never get around to it. But seeing your Hatsan is a bit inspiring.

I pre-ordered the stock on 4-5-13. I finally got it on 7-1-13. Took them sometime to get it out the door due to location changes and machinery issues. ATI now makes all sorts of cool stocks and pistol grips for a bunch of different shotguns.

I didn't take any measurements on the LoP, I just put it in the position that best suited me. I've done the same with my other guns too that have adjustable stocks. It looks like it is about 2 1/2" shorter than the stock, stock (god I hated that thing.)

I just got ithe stock on and haven't had a chance to shoot it, so I can't really comment on the recoil pad. I'm guessing it should make a difference since it feels more padded than the stock pad. And the back of the grip has this funky padding that feels pretty cool.

Birdshot cycling has been hit or miss. Sometimes it eats it up, then other days its all about the #00. It also may have been an issue of me having the side saddle screws to tight and squeezing the action. I'll give a range report once I get a minute to get it out and blast with it.

Thanks for the info!

The ATI stock looks good on the MP-S/A. I'll be upgrading to it, when the budget allows.

The factory stock makes me reach a little too far. Having a telescoping stock would correct that.

How does the pistol grip fit your hand? Is it longer then the factory pistol grip?

Looking forward to the range report!

PS- Which +2 did you use?

The pistol grip fits good, and I have medium sized hands. Not sure if it is longer, but its not so short that it leaves your pinkie looking for a perch. Not sure what you meant by +2 did I use. If you meant #00, I use all different manufacturers. And if you get the ATI stock, put a 1" piece of Gorilla tape on the tube, then slide the stock over it. Takes all the wobble out. I've done that with Magpul stocks that wobble. Works great.

Its be over a year of trial and error. And a lot of help from Joe at KA. I really hope he comes thru with the a charging handle. The stock one blows.

I was referring to the mag tube extension when I asked about the +2. Sorry about that. I should have been a little clearer.

Good info to know about the pistol grip. I don't have overly large hands. Do have long fingers. And with the factory pistol grip, I'm looking for a place to rest my pinkie. Sound's like the ATI stock will solve that issue.

A new charging handle from KA would be very cool and I'm hoping he follows through with an offering. Same goes for a piston, which he has mentioned too. I can see where it might become an issue. But, only more time and use will tell there.

Your shotty look great! Thanks for sharing it and answering question's about it.

I used a Tacstar Benelli Nova for my mag tube. Joe had to trim off part of the actual magazine so the extension could screw down flush and hold the foregrip. I've seen a couple of guys use mountain bike stem spacers in lieu of the machine work.

Yeah that would be cool, easy too... my finger started to get all raw after a day of shooting with it haha

KA did a nice job fitting the TacStar +2 on the shotty. Looks like it belongs on it, which is the way it should be.

I've been holding out for the KA extension. Hopefully we'll see it available soon. Along with the other things KA has in the works.

Thanks for the post...You've sold me on the ATI stock!

Well, took it to the range. Kept getting FTF's and some FTE's, but I only got those using low base rounds, and that was expected. I took off the shotshell holder, and that helped a bit, but with #00 and slugs, I would still get occasional FTF's. Came home, took out the screws for the shotshell holder, and put the stock pins back in. Gonna take it back out when I'm home again in two weeks. If it still keeps acting up, its going on the chopping block and I'm going back to my beloved Winnie 1300 Defender pump which was my first shotgun, and has never let me down. I will say this, it was 100% easier to handle with the shorter stock. If I can get these FTF's figured out, I'm golden. And of course, now that TBolt brought up the double feed issue, my stupid shotgun kept doing that too.

Try replacing the mag follower with one of the delrin ones, solved my problems with this gun. The gas ports also seem to need pretty frequent cleaning. I use a wooden skewer with the point to do a quick cleaning.

The follower is an S&J delrin type. I'll check the gas ports. It is a distinct possiblity that they are dirty and doesn't have enough "uumph" to cycle the bolt. I've been dicking around with a new mountain bike and haven't got to the range yet. I'll try and rectify that in the next couple of weeks.

I just installed this stock on my Bataan escort and its looks good. The supplied receiver mounting bolt was a PITA to screw in though, I don't think its ever coming out.

"I took off the shotshell holder, and that helped a bit"

You might try a velcro side saddle. It won't tweak the reciever.

I finally cleaned it, and I'm taking it to the range this week. If the shotshell holder squeezing the bolt inside the receiver was the problem, I'm gonna go with velcro deal you are showing.

We just got the extensions finished (hurray for not having to weld/modify existing extensions anymore) and we got another production run of shellholders done. Next on the "to do" list is the charging handle and breaching attachments, after that we'll hopefully have the piston ready to go to production

I love that new extension, Joe. It looks awesome. Love to see a "real" charging handle and the new piston. Anything to help with feeding and ejection would be most appreciated.

We're hoping that the new piston will improve the cycling, we managed to fix it on the Saigas with the KA-SG01A piston, hopefully we'll do the same with the MP-A. Not sure how much we'll be able to do about feed issues from a parts perspective, but we're going to do a "ground up" MPA build soon so we'll have some detailed pointers for this

Great to hear. Mine keeps having FTF issues about every six or seven rounds. Only partially feeds the round into the chamber and I have to manually push the charging handle forward to get the round to seat all the way in. Very frustrating.

On the earlier Escorts we usually open the gas ports about .008", it tends to improve cycling. Once we do the ground up build on the MP-A we'll determine whether any changes need made to the ports

^^Looks good. Too bad the stock...stock, wasn't about 1" to 2" inches shorter. It would be a perfect stock then.

Thanks and I agree with you about the stock just a tad bit too long.
I may go with the ATI stock and pin it like you did.

It's all about 922r and what constitutes "sporting purpose". The BATF has not really defined "sporting purpose" and have approved the importation of shotguns/rifles over the years which have had features generally considered to not be of "sporting purpose" by popular "rules of thumb" ('94 AWB, etc). 922r is nothing more than a half-written law that gives the BATF the power to arbitrarily decide what can and cannot be imported into the US, they have never prosecuted anyone under 922r and never will because as soon as that law is challenged in court the BATF would have to define "sporting purpose" and would be subject to following 922r as well. Importers are subject to a different set of laws, but once the guns are sold here they're subject to 922r

All legal discussion aside, the BATF and all the other gov't idiots that want to use half-written laws to justify infringement on our gun rights can suck a fat hairy one in my personal opinion

This is why you see importers get their panties in a bunch about 922r yet manufacturers and everyone else really doesn't give a damn. I've had this discussion with importers and they always cite "such and such" feature as being illegal, but what they're citing is the importation regulations, not 922r. If you look at 922r and 925(c-d) its pretty clear that the law is written poorly for a reason

Great explanation sounds like I will be looking into uyour +2 then. One last question is the 922r only applying to semi autos does it make a difference that mine is pump?

It applies to all shotguns. The extension we build does not fit the pump however, the mag tube on the pump is about 3/8" shorter than the one on the MPA. The mag extension could be shortened at the back end and reknurled to fit it though.
