It's either for a S&W revolver or Rem 870, as thats what the guy worked on for his dept.

A Jig of somekind?

It is called a "bench block". Most machine tool companys (like Enco, Rutland, etc.) sell them. Basically, these are used for driving pins into bar stock using the V-groove; or used when driving pins in or out of flat stock.

Wood worker is correct, Machinist/Mechanics favorite bench tool for working on smaller devices, actions, triggers, sights, etc.

Dont leave home without it.

Swash plate for a spitzinagel valve. The groove cuts down on flutter.
