Some of you here in my area may know that currently the time for your first interview with the Fresno Sheriff Dept. to turn in your package, is about 4-5 months away.
If you are a Fresno City resident, not county, Ed at the Fresno Police Dept. CCW unit wants to help YOU! He said that if you had your package/background filled out, he could meet you possibly as soon as this Monday to turn it in. 12/28. There is no safe gun list, and no limitations on the permit as in the past. Good cause is still important, and Chief Dyer wants to see more responsible citizens who have the need, issued with a Fresno City CCW. Call 559-276-6056 and leave a number, or talk to Ed directly. So basically, almost no wait to turn in your package. Fresno City dwellers only. Enjoy, oh, tell Ed Matt sent you.

So, maybe we should investigate City of Fresno...
My Christmas shall be filled with PRARs for all the [CLEO] girls and boys!

This will be interesting , I remember going down to the Saroyan theater probably 10 or more years ago for a public town hall type meeting to discuss why Fresno would not give out any permits , that is unless you were a City Council member or a relative of some one in the City Goverment.
I hope Chief Dyer has a more open mind then back then Chief Winchester did, he seems like a pretty straight forward and fair guy, I've seen him at church and the 410 sprint car races numerous times seems like a cool guy to me. My take is, the PD see's that city of Fresno residents are going to get a permit any ways through the SO Dept, so they might as well issue them and collect the money for themselves, if they were to also charge the $110 for each permit, and they issued 1000 permits a year, that's over a hundred grand into their tight and ever shrinking budget, it would save PD officers jobs, buy a couple new cruisers or how ever they choose to spend the cash. I think the fact that Sheriff Mimms is pro gun and the position she has taken on a citizens right to carry a concealed firearm, is making it easier for other LEO's in the area to jump on boad. |

Sounds like they found out how to get some $$. Hard to beat Mimms, though. I've sent quite a few folks to the SO to apply and every single one has been approved. Every, single, one. It'd be a bummer if PD decides your GC statement isn't good enough where the SO might have approved it, even if the wait is 5+ months... Hopefully PD and SO are on the same page as far as what is 'Good Cause'.

Remember,
I have suggested this for Fresno City residents to possibly enjoy a much quicker process. A simple phone call to Ed, will certainly answer for you if your good cause is enough for that issued CCW. Ed will know if it will work or not. If he feels you don't have enough, then by all means call Fresno County.

Matt, that's awesome. If Ed will give you a tentative 'Go/No-Go' over the phone, that might help a lot of folks get off their tails and apply. If you are a city resident of good character, I can't imagine why you wouldn't make a phone call at least. Costs you nothing...

The city of Fresno should stop playing games and issue for self-defense, and revise their policy to reflect a lawful one.

If the PD is going to be issuing with the same good causes as the SO does, that's great for all of us here, should take some of the back log off the SO Dept. I'm pretty sure they will be issuing like the SO, if they don't, the SO will collect the money. |

Guys, I know Ed and think much of him.
I finally was able to get a good contact number for him and the city. I normally have always sent to the SO. When Ed told me about how quick the city process was, and that Dyer WANTS to issue just like Mimms, I have been spreading the word. Thanks for your help BrianM...

I've been spreading the word around also.
Has any one gotten any feedback as to how they are reviewing good cause? is it similar to the SO dept, which IMOP the SO dept are basically taking the Shall issue attitude. Any approvals or denials yet to speak of? |

FYI, the Fresno Police Department does a background investigation of all applicants and, unless you have some negative issues in your past, you will get a CCW permit. Very few applicants are denied, since most applicants are good and decent people.

I am hearing from more and clients I send to Ed at the Fresno City CCW unit.
Ed in one case met the applicant at a restaurant to help him finish up his package! Amazing. This is just how Ed works. If you are a City resident, then get hold of Ed Torres.. The Man! Number above..

I was researching fees associated with obtaining a ccw in fresno, is this current/correct?
$100 Processing fee $100 State Department fee $20 Fingerprinting I'm assuming about $70-100 for a CCW course? Is the wait time for FPD still pretty short? |

Good, I made much effort in this thread to show interested individuals Ed is a GREAT guy.
The story with meeting a client at a restaurant comes to mind. I do not know your answers. Typically, most are happy just to be able to get one and care little over the cost. Not to suggest you should not be concerned with the cost. Just that no one has ever asked me what they are. Good luck..

Ed with Fresno city is an awesome guy. I just got off the phone with him and he was so helpful, walked me through everything needed for my cause and set me an appt for this Monday, yes this Monday. I had a prior DUI but has been expunged and said should be no issue, so I'm hoping all goes well Monday, thanks Matt for the great info on Ed and FPD

I cold called Matt doing research for Utah's out of state permit. Thanks man for the contact and info for Ed to get me situated in California. He's a good guy and really wants to help.
As of this Monday I'm done with the process and started 2nd week of January. Technically I'm still on the books for my appointment in mind April for the County (scheduled in November of 2010). Very appreciated.

Had my interview with Ed with FPD today, went great, super easy and simple. I had a rather long good cause and he walked me through writing another shorter summary of how he would word it right there on the spot. He said should be seeing approval letter in two weeks and permit two weeks after that. Now keeping fingers crossed waiting on letter

I need someone who recently went through the process to PM me ASAP. I'd like to understand how it went "in practice".

I wish I could be more help to you Blackhawk 556. I don't know any contacts in Madera but maybe Matt P can reach out to his contacts or one of the other local trainers can be of assistance.
It was my understanding that Madera was taking less time and was as pro-active as Fresno County/Mims. However that conversation was several weeks ago. PM'd you WH.

Just thought I would give everyone an update... My Fresno PD application was approved. I picked up my permit today!!! Thanks again Matt for the info, without it I would still be waiting to turn in my application at the SO's and of course thanks to Ed Torrez for all the help.

PD is not as easy as sheriffs where "self defense" will get you by, call Ed at PD and he can tell you if your good cause will get by, he's VERY helpful. I did my live scan Tuesday so hopefully get my license within a month
