Default Gunsmith for restoring old Colt SAA type revolvers

A friend of mine is into restoring 1800s Colt revolvers and his out-of-state gunsmith is no longer taking work due to health issues. Does anyone have a recommendation for a gunsmith who specializes in old Colts?

Smile restoring Colt single sctions

Eddie Janis, owner of Peacemaker Specialties. I don't have a link, but I am sure a Google search will find him. He is in NorCal.

Turnbulls is the place to go if you want the best work possible but be prepared to spend a small fortune. I contacted them to restore my Colt M1908 and after much discussion and pictures the price quoted was $2000 - $2500. Hell that is more money than I paid for it or more than the cost of a excellent unfired one. There is no disputing that they do excellent work but heir pricing is astronomical. But if you are talking a family hierloom then price may not be an issue.

Eddie Janis will do the work at a reasonable price ... BUT, depending on what needs to be done, it may take a loooooong time. I have a first generation SAA having its internals completely rebuilt, including welding and recutting the hammer notches. It went in during early October 2009 and when I spoke to Eddie yesterday he said he expects to get it back to me in June or July 2011. Everything is done by hand on these guns and that spells time. I wouldn't hesitate to send another SAA to Eddie. His work is top drawer. He comes highly recommended by everyone on the Colt Forum as well.

If you need hands on work one, Eddie is the man. If you have any inclination to do the work yourself, he will also sell you any SAA part you need. His parts meet or exceed factory quality.

He's just up the highway from me, and is highly regarded by the SASS members here.

Using his parts, I easily rebuilt my 1906 .32-20 Bisley to safe working condition.
