Default New AR for less than $500!

Here's a complete Del-Ton AR in kit form for $499. CLICK HERE!
I haven't been able to find a better price than that anywhere.

That is a great price for a "training rifle" that one can use to practice with and shoot at the range with the mindset of only changing parts when they break.

See definitions and maintenance notes here. http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=61505

I just thought that maybe some of these guys that are looking at these Plumcrazy/JSE cheap combos might want a better alternative in my opinion anyway. Del-Ton makes a good kit and you can't beat that price.

Their chromelined version is 50 bucks more.

I don't see why they won't, it is a stripped lower and doesn't come with a mag.

+1...nice deal....I would prefer this chrome lined kit over my JSE/Plumb in hind sight. I don't regret my purchase. Just might add another to the stable and do a long term comparison test. I have a thing for budget beater AR's and think they are more than adequate for my needs. Especially this one.

Thanks for posting Don,

Thanks for posting Don,
I'm not saying anything bad about JSE or Plumcrazy. I have had no dealing with either and it sounds like both have been good so far. I just thought this would be another budget deal for people. Del-Ton seem to be good ARs. All the ones I've seen so far have been good to go.

yeah it is quite tempting for a first AR, without having to shell out too much.

4 non chromed & 2 chromed in stock as of now.

Im actually building a NEW ar for around the same price. And Del-ton is the upper I will be using. If you look around, you can find parts for pretty cheap. Im getting a new stripped lower for 120 bucks, 145 including fees from my local shop. 100 dollars shipped for a complete lower receiver kit and a 6 position stock. 20 for a magazine and 20 for the BB. Thats 285 for a complete lower. Then 325 for a complete Del-ton upper. Thats 610 dollars for a nice platform. However the 500 dollar deal is good, but including shipping and FFL transfer fees and state fees, thats almost the same price. Just saying.

Hmmm...that's pretty good. Do you have links to where you got your parts? I am trying to put one together too.

And...Don29Palms---> THANK YOU FOR THE LINK. That is a good price! There is a complete set minus receiver for $449.

Unless your dealer isnt charging sales tax, theres no way you can get a $120 lower for $145 including fees.

This looks like a pretty good deal. I have a higher end Del-Ton upper and have been very happy with it. I have about 700 rounds through it right now and have only had one FTE. It was with cheap Wolf ammo though and the case got stuck in the chamber. A little tap with a cleaning rod and it came right out. I think they're great for the price.

Does that complete Del-Ton upper come with BCG and charging handle?

For $499 for everything that basically means your getting a stripped lower for $50. That seems like a good deal to me. If you already have a stripped lower you could save it for the next build. (And there will be a next build!)

If you read the ad again - It includes the lower.

It's also in the pic. How can they be out of mags?

i checked the delton website and they have no such deal? Am I missing something? I searched for DTI-15 and nothing came up. Is this a special through "coldhandarms" only?

Nice deal... almost "disposable" at that price.

The only thing to be aware of is that that initial $500 will blossom very quickly into more cash overall as you accessorize, trick-out, and otherwise maintain the rifle. The AR platform is evil like that... Unless you are really waffling over the initial cash outlay as a test-buy for your first AR (or a "disposable" secondary), there is some logic to parting out a custom build to your own specifications from the get-go for a little more cash.

I believe some of the deals until 12/31/2010 on Smartgunner for the DD uppers are still available and pretty dang amazing for a little more cash. You can easily build a dreamy build for under $1000 going that path, though. (edit: added link to thread)

Not to knock the Del-ton product... just something to ponder if you are on the cusp of spending. Plus everyone knows, the cost of the rifle itself pales in comparison to the cost of ammo in the long run.

Del-Ton has been around for quite awhile in the ar ''kit'' world. They are known to put out a decent product for the money and a lot of people are actually buying del-ton's stuff and selling it on their own site. They have definitely done well for themselves on the cheaper scaled stuff for plinking and fun.

Yes this is a Coldhand Arms deal and not a Del-Ton deal.

Guys, these "cheapo" rifles hold their own at appleseed events and various grueling programs such as Front Site (seen em, shot em), no more failures than the high end units. The reality of you actually experiencing a failure in life/ death situation is about .00001%. The older late 60's -1970's Colts issued to our infantry, the best we had, were likely not as dependable as the basic (inexpensive) mcforgery Delton.

So if you buy a kit from Del-Ton without a lower it is $465.
If you buy a Del-Ton kit from Coldhand Arms with a stripped lower it is $499.
You're getting a stripped lower for $34. This is not rocket science here.
