Default Just picked up my 1940 Luger P-08

I just picked up my 1940 Luger P-08 9mm. Everything is matching, except the magazine & grips. Bore is good & has Nazi logo stamped on the barrel, some finish wear on the surface.

Def. is nice to have C&R & COE combo (no 10 days waiting for C&R handgun ).

Special thanks to zinfull that found this & PM me the ad info.

Now, some shots:

I am glad everything worked out for you. That is a nice piece of history and you can shoot it. Be sure to wear head gear as the round ejects up and straight back. I use WWB ammo and do not have many problems.

Sweet, Wolff Springs makes a kit for the P08 that helps a lot but leave the outside the way it is.

I found an E. German VOLPO set

www.gunsprings.com

They even have magazine springs for the P08 and that is important.

Do your self a favor and do not try to replace the mag springs. There is a guy that does this type of work and has very good prices. His work is very professional. This is a job that can make a old mag new. A normal person will mess it up and lose the value of the mag. A nice mag goes for $125-150.

Maybe Jerry lacks the skill? It's just a pin and I have replaced a few but then that is just me.

Or I can let him a bigger hammer, LOL.

Yes it is a pin. If you do an OK job the mag will work. But you can make the mag into a $50 mag or a $150 mag. Your choice. The reworked right mag lost it's collector value by a bad job.

I do call a plumber for somethings. I can fix most anything as long a I can cover it in paint or hide it from sight. I think my smallest hammer is a 2.5# sludge. The bad mag came with a pistol I picked up years ago. Mecgar are liked by some but I like the original mags.

3 lb sledge that's me. LOL

I got six original magazines from SOG and replaced all the springs. MEGAR are OK but still need a stronger spring, it's the feed angle that doen't like a weak springs.

A luger might well be the most beautiful (e-vil) pistol ever made! Kind of like the Colt Pyton in a revolver or the AK in a rifle.

Congrats on a nice weapon. It looks familiar. Here's mine:

Mine is all matching also, except for the magazine. Be careful when you shoot yours. The firing pins get brittle and will break. Then a nice collector becomes merely a nice shooter. I have started acquiring the parts that most commonly fail so that I can replace my original parts when I take it out to shoot. If you haven't already, check out the lugerforum for some excellent info.

Cheers!

Wow, we have the same 1940/42 Luger, but yours is nicer than mine (grips & finish are in better conditions).
I shot 50 rounds last weekend & got few FTF (as expected) since I just use regular American Eagle 110gr FMJ, but overall it's OK considering it's a 70 years old gun. One thing: it's so hard to load the magazine using just my thumb to hold the knob, I think I'm gonna get the tool for it.

Yeah, it's wild isn't it? I wonder how far apart on the production line they were? And what kind of journeys they took before arriving here?

I thought yours looked pretty nice. What's wrong with the grips? I can't really tell from the pix.

The FTF problem is probably magazine related. Like earlier posters said, a mag rebuild (stronger springs) is probably a good idea if it is a recurring problem.

Definitely get the tool for it. I bought one from CDNN for just a few dollars. CDNN also had a Mecgar mag that I picked up so that I could have a spare.

Cheers

Good, you'll be glad you got the tool. And your thumb will thank you

Beyond sentimentality, I'm sure you are familiar with the epic thread, "Info on Marine who owned my S&W 1917" (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...hlight=orville). Sometimes history almost comes to life when the dots are connected

I like the grips on the second Luger of yours. Is it original or repro? If it's a repro, would you mind to share where did you get it?
By the way, thank you for your service!
