Default Tula ammo is reloadable!

So I got a box of Tula ammo at Walmart and fired a few rounds. I picked it up just to see if it's boxer or berdan prime and to my surprise it's boxer! So I took it home and loaded some up just to see how accurate they are. Pretty good results for not even working loads!

Ill be damned. Wonder if the 7.62x39 is also boxer primed.
Wonder what the life is on those steel cases?

I've posted several times about this. I'm not sure when they switched, but this 1000 rounds I got from Cabelas last time was boxer primed. It reloads fine, feels like it might be a bit harder on the 'ol trimmer, and you need to lube well, but otherwise it's no problem.

Cmwv, I think the 7.62x39 is berdan. I think, I had a 100 rounds but I picked up a few mixed 7.62x39 wolf/Tula so I dunno. Ill check again.

I've reloaded and used a number of Tula .223. I didn't tumble them, I just wiped them clean and reloded them. I'm going to keep them in ziplock bags and use them when I go out to the forest and don't mind losing them. They work fine, but I'm worried that the coating comes off and will allow the steel cases to rust after a while.

Other than just for the experiment, that's exactly how and why I've reloaded them. I've reloaded some twice without any problems, but I worry about the coating also.

heck my dies are a bit scratched up from loading brass expect neck gouge marks on sized cases after a while

i love the steel cases they are much more biodegradable

a secret spot i used to go has some of my old cases from the 90s and they are crusty red rust

brass seems to just go black and then last forever

actually wanted to buy some of that steel-cased crap just for the indoor range trips so i don't have to worry about losing half my brass to the range-nazis. they can keep the coated steel crap, lol.

people at the range give me looks for picking it up.. i told them i plan to reload it.. i told them "hey its boxer primed so why not.. even if it kills dies $30 worth of dies will get me $300 in ammo)... i guess it got them thinking because now the range is always picked clean..

Stupid question. Do you have to trim steel cased ammo like brass ammo?

You can reload steel cases--as long as they are not berden primed? I learn something new everyday.

You actually can even reload Berdan-primed cases, but it's a total PITA. You won't get as many reloads out of a steel case, but so what? At that price, even two reuses makes it worth it.

I'm hoping they'll do cheap Boxer/steel .308 Win soon, too.

If this is to answer my question, doesn't it beat the hell out your trimmer to trim steel cases?

They MIGHT wear it out a little faster, but steel cases are made with a very very soft steel so the difference will probably be insignificant.

Seems like even for just one use it's pretty inexpensive and if they can be reloaded twice, thats just a bonus.

I'm picking up some this week.
