Default XD 40 Range Report

Hey guys, I have a write up on the XD 40 for any of you considering buying one of these guns.

http://glog-blog.com/2010/11/04/xd-40-range-report/

I hope this range report helps some of you considering whether or not to take the plunge with this gun. Anyone else have any similar or different experiences than mine with this gun?

I really enjoy my 5" and SC.

Ergo's are great for me, but I understand what you mean about thumbs forward.

The take up issue has been taken care of by a couple of methods.

Love my 4" XD .40 but I did have similar issues with the smaller grip. Never anything that effected me that much but I picked up a Pacymer slip on grip and that alone makes the gun feel soo much better and fit my hand better. I never did like the ergonomics of the Glock. It just never felt right to me.

It's hard to find something just right, isn't it? I'm looking forward trying out the M&P. I wonder how it compares to the XD and the Glock.

I was thinking of an XD40. Really appreciated the "real-world" range report you did.

That's cool. I'm not a fan of Springfield's holsters and mag pouches though. If they had a discount coupon for a holster I really wanted then I'd give them theirs back.

Totally right. I also am left handed so the slide release never gets in my way. And great write up BTW... forgot to add that to my post.

I've been eyeing the M&Ps to see how they fair, never picked one up though.

It's interesting that you mention the grip safety. I did not understand how that would make the weapon more safe until learning that the Spriggy is fully cocked when carrying whereas the Glock's are only cocked halfway. With the Glock the trigger motion completes cocking the striker.

Thanks for the write up. I love my xd40 also. The grips are just fine for me, I guess I have big hands or maybe I'm use to it as I love my 92FS also and I'm able to grip it just fine.

After some consideration, as much as I like the xd40 I'm going to sell it and get an xd9 instead. I've decided to streamline the amount of ammo I want to stock to only a few calibers and after some consideration the 40 cal is going. 9mm is really cheap to shoot and I can't see myself letting go of my 1911 so the 45acp has to stay too.

That's more or less what I do. Most of my guns are 9mm and .45 ACP. I only have one .40, and it's my lone Sig so I can't get rid of that. I rarely buy lots of ammo for it though.

From the Glog:
Quote:
The pistol I fired was the service model with 4 inch barrel. One thing you notice immediately is the size of the slide. It’s big and chunky. It is comparable with the Glock slide although it seems bigger. That having been said, it definitely feels top heavy. As you can see in this picture the slide isn’t excessively big but it felt unbalanced. The slide is made of polymer so it is naturally very light, but the ratio of frame weight to slide weight felt a little off to me.
wait, what?

Edit: just finished the rest. good, balanced review. nice job...still not sure what is meant above, though...

frame is made of polymer? that fits pretty good.

Especially since my targets usually look like this.

Don't make me defend my honor on the internet. Hah!

Hey, I was working with a co-worker today on our thanksgiving potluck sign-up sheet.

She and I had to look on google to double-check the spelling of:

Desert-a dry place with little to no water...and...
Dessert- a after meal treat or pastry

You only missed it by one letter. I was on a totally different word.

Definitely different experience for me. I shoot with a thumbs forward and support hand thumb on the frame and it was a pleasure for me to shoot the XD-40 Tactical. which has the same frame as yours.

Also I am used to single action semi auto shooting, particularly my Sig P229 .40, and a couple of 1911 rentals and transitioning to the XD trigger was nothing short of a pleasure.

I'm glad you had a good experience. Don't get me wrong though. The trigger isn't bad at all. I actually kind of like it compared to my DAK P229. It just had a few noticeable oddities. But then again, what trigger doesn't?
