This! I'll possibly sell my C2 after I'm finished getting my CCW.

Don't do it. You'll still need the Taser. There're times when you won't be able to shoot someone. I'm not getting rid of mine...

I'll still keep OC on me, but I won't carry my firearm and the taser.

To add: You'll need to be able to justify why you used it, what the threat was, etc. so that you're not charged with battery yourself.

I think you'd be well advised to tase only those you'd be justified in shooting. Even if the taser itself is harmless, an uncontrolled fall is a good way to break your neck.

That's not true at all. If you're justified to shoot, then you shoot. You don't Tase.

WI has been in the news a lot lately regarding this issue (not exactly for taser carry), so why shouldn't this issue start to get some attention in those states where they are illegal? Will it take a "test case", or will someone have to come in and file a 1983 claim over this? In those states above (with the exception of MI I think) all forms of carry are prohibited for the use of SD/P, so it's obvious to me that these kinds of prohibitions are in serious constitutional jeopardy. Am I wrong? Erik. |

He awakened about 2 weeks later after having been in the ICU for a subdural bleed and suffered from lingering neurological damage including missing all but 1/4th of his visual fields. A fall, even from ground level, is always a potentially serious injury. |

Thinking that it is a much lower level of provocation that is allowed when using a taser might get one into legal trouble. |

I don't feel that tasers pass the Miller test (arms in common use). I don't feel that there is really any supporting government interest that would ban their use. I just need a J.D. who feels the same way =p. Not sure what your meaning about "all forms of carry are prohibited for the use of sd/p", I was pretty sure only Hawaii and Illinois were some of the only states in the country where no one has any form of carry, be it open, concealed, loaded or unloaded.

For cops, tasers are an alternative to nightsticks and wrestling. They need to control someone they're going to arrest. But I'd stand by my assertion that (for legal risk reasons, not moral ones) civilians shouldn't tase when a shooting wouldn't be justified. I'm sure we can come up with counterexamples, but I doubt it would be a productive conversation. This is just a rule of thumb. |

(regarding getting rid of a taser when you get a ccw)
Hmm, I'd worry about sitting in front of a jury with some prosecutor asking why I didn't use the taser instead of shooting the guy with the knife. I wonder if there have been any cases like that. |

That's why you get training, study and prepare so that when your SHTF moment comes you'll know what to do, why you do it and why you didn't do something else. Etc.

Look up escalation of force/continuum of force ladder, you'll rarely find a solo cop pull a taser against an armed assailant and would draw their service weapon almost instantly if they felt that their life or someone elses was in danger.

Question for those stating its impossible to get a CCW in Solano County:
Are you aware of the current CalGuns Foundation work going on?? Second, have you made a donation to the defense fund, directly to Solano County? I only see 3 peoples names on there. The fight to freedom is not going to be won with questions in a forum....its going to be won with intimidation, expensive Lawyers wearing business suits, and courtrooms.

What is it about those that makes Taser only sell them to cops? I'd rather have one of those than a C2, which looks much harder to aim.

They sell to civilians, but they're more expensive than the C2. You can get the C2 with a laser. Not hard to aim at all.
