Default Identifying ar15 upper by markings

Just wondering what manufacture is the square marking on my noveske upper? I found a small list of mfg by forge markings and a square is "Aluminum Brass". What does that mean? My upper is aluminum brass?

I've read several times that FN upper should have a Cerro Forge "Keyhole" stamp or FM mark

I don't know if that applies only the newer FN uppers, or even older ones like the pre-AWB you are describing....

Forging marks/makers.

A (splintered) = Anchor Harvey Aluminum

AF = Alcoa Forge

C AF = Colt Alco Forge

C MB = Colt / Mueller Brass

Cardinal (stylized) = Cardinal Forge

CH = Colt Harvey Aluminum

CK = Colt / Kaiser Aluminum

Circle/Crooshairs w/"AR" = ArmaLite

CM = Colt / Martin Marietta

D (stylized) = Diemaco

DK = Diemaco / Kaiser Aluminum

E = Emco

EK = EMCO/Kaiser

E MB = EMCO/Mueller Brass

F keyhole = FNMI / Cerro Forge

FA = FNMI / Anchor Harvey

FK = FNMI / Kaiser Aluminum

FM = FN/Martin Marietta

FMB = FNMI / Mueller Brass

Keyhole = Cerro Forge

L = Lewis Machine & Tool

LK = LAR / Kaiser Aluminum

LM = LAR / Martin Marietta

M (under diamond) = Mueller Industries

PA = Capco / Anchor Harvey

PM = Capco / Martin Marietta

----------------------------------------------------
I found this list from old posts.

AFAIK, the square forge marking is theirs (Brass Aluminum Forging Enterprises).

The list of forging markings, this is for uppers only, not barrels, right?

And where does the marking usually show up?

That's the mark of the company that forged the upper.

They did not machine it. They only made the blank that someone else machined.

Forge marks basically mean nothing.

Ok, so it has nothing to do with the barrel, right? Do the barrels have a similar marking? I was sold what supposed to be a Colt barrel, and I can't verify that. (and it's nothing you sold to me, heh)

Okay, generally speaking, how does one identify an AR upper that doesn't appear to have any markings.
I just received my new AR upper. I have not gone over it with a bright light and a magnifying glass, but I don't see any markings anywhere. It was sold as a Del-Ton upper from a Del-Ton dealer.

Correct. The forge markings have absolutely nothing to do with the barrels.

With that said, Colt barrels, uppers, and carriers are GENERALLY stamped with a "C" somewhere.

Del-Ton barrels are usually marked DTI somewhere. Check under the handguards too.

As far as identifying an upper with no markings, you usually don't.
