Interesting. My statement, approved over a year ago is one of the last few listed and it is so heavily redacted that I barely recognized it. The actual pertinent facts that I believed led to approval are part of the redaction.

This leads me to wonder if those statements remaining are what got it approved or are they the part that didn't matter?

Wow! It's so odd and satisfying to see my GC statement amongst these.

Your good cause statement, or a good cause statement similar or identical to yours?

It was mostly left intact. In fact I don't even get why they took out the 3 words they did. Mine was page 20. The marked out "and family man".

It's weird seeing mine in there too, though it's heavily redacted... (similar time line to clcolin81).

I don't understand what they were redacting, it seems completely random.

Livescan 10/11/11
Call for Targets 3/19/12

I called today and got a hold of Debbie, she had Catherine call me back after an hour or so. Somehow I got approved but never got my call for training

Oh well, now I can go turn in my targets.

It does indeed seem to be random. Mine was, as I mentioned in a previous post, so heavily redacted that I barely recognized it. All reference to My being a Firefigter was removed completely yet a friend of mine's letter, who is on the same Department, was much less redacted and the statements concerning the Fire Department were left intact.

I'm a professional musician who lives in Solano county but works late in SF clubs. Do I have a chance of getting approved for a ccw using my job as a just cause? Thanks for the help and/or advice.

The only issue I see with your case is that you aren't allowed to carry in an establishment whose primary business is serving alcohol. Working late hours in the city should be good cause but I'm not sure how to deal with the Club issue. It may be different as you are working there and not a customer.
Good luck.

I might try to add as many other factors as you can. It seems that a few of the denials have had one thing in common: extremely narrow scope of GC. If you can show that you have more areas than just work that would require a need for self defense it will likely help.

Also, the GC statements have been updated to include a lot more individuals (including several people in this thread who've been approved and licensed). Skim through those a few times to get an idea of what Sheriff Stanton is looking for.

Congrats! No joke, wait time used to be ~ two weeks after turning in the targets.

Maybe those who had livescan done in October are entitled to make a phone call?

I was called by Katherine yesterday to come in to pick up my modified permit. She apologized for it taking so long and said she had been learning the ropes as she goes along. I got the impression she's probably going to be moving a little faster on some of these (but there's still the bottleneck of the Sheriff personally reviewing everything at every step of the process).

Update:
I went in this morning to get my modified LTC but hit a snag... apparently we're not supposed to laminate our "rice paper" LTC . She wanted to modify it on the spot instead of issuing a new one. I didn't forsee this (thought they always issued new paper for modifications) so she will have to type up a new one and have the Sheriff sign it before I can come back to pick it up .

Good reminder, thanks. I also saw that somewhere in another county's thread. Mine's folded in the behind the card.

I was told by Deputy Grant to laminate the card. If you're careful, you could probably take the lamination apart to get the card out.

Got my phone call from Kathryn (Catherine?) as well today... picture day again is tomorrow. After all this time looking forward to Nachos I may pass on them now (cutting carbs again doing Atkins so I be sure and fit an IWB) ...will make a donation to CGF instead. The wife is stoked and will go through the process as well now that it seems worth the wait...and I'll feel better knowing she'll be able to have that choice to carry as well.

Thank you Gene for coming up to Dixon in January of 2011 (?) and explaining the process along with the folks hosting the forum that day. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at the time, but I could see and feel the winds of change over the past few years and thought WTH. Thank you Solano SO for as well for recognizing folks rights to protect themselves and providing what I consider a reasonable and fair process to get our LTC/CCW issued.

Ms. Grant told me the same thing at my final appointment to pick up the LTC the first time...

Unfortunately, I don't think I can take mine apart because I used the poor-man's lamination method (clear packing tape on both sides)

Oh well, I've waited 2.5 months for the modification what's 1 more week.

Has anyone here received their LTC with a misdemeanor on their background? Or has everyone been squeaky clean?

My last ticket was more than 20 years ago, and it was only a minor speeding violation. Squeaky clean otherwise.

Squeaky clean here too. However, I've heard of some people with "stuff" in their distant past being approved. It depends on what the charges were though. Minor in possession, maybe you'll be fine; some sort of assault/DV or firearms-related charge and denial is likely (based on anecdotal evidence from those in-the-know about how Sheriff Stanton operates).

I recall there were a few in Stanislaus.... (Old DUI charge, many years past, and I think another had a 30+ year old misdemeanor battery arrest, again 30+ years in the past...)

I was also told by Deputy Grant that I could laminate license, but no mention of what if I had to modify Section B. Good thing I have yet to laminate mine. However, I did make backup copies.

Does anyone on this board see any issues with carrying a backup copy of the license instead of the original on my wallet? The original would never last two years using that cheap "receipt type" paper they use!

It wasn't discussed in this thread (maybe the Sacto one?) but I think we have to have the "rice paper" copy no matter what (DOJ/PC requirement or something like that). I agree it wouldn't survive 2yrs in my wallet which is why I followed Ms. Grant's suggestion (maybe she and Katherine need to have a chat).

Upon further reflection, maybe a sort of plastic sleeve could be used that's resealable or taped over the end. I'll have to see if I can find such a thing...

I'm thinking the plastic ziplock style holders used for fishing licenses might be the way to go, you'd just have to fold it up to get it into your wallet.

Yep, I just went to Walmart, concealed carrying of course, and purchased a vinyl fishing license holder for $1.74. I cut the end tab off where the lanyard would loop through and put both the license, and permit in the holder. Nipped it in the bud!

Good luck.
If you read PC 12050-12054, you'll notice that there is no such prohibition against establishments that serve alcohol.

What was your turn around time? I need to switch out one of my pieces for another, and I'll need a new card. The laminated card does not want to be unlaminated...

Didn't you just get your LTC a few weeks ago?... j/k

From the time I dropped off my targets until I got the call to come get the modified LTC was about 12 weeks. I then was delayed an additional week because of the lamination issue. If you let Kathrine know about the need for a new "rice paper" copy when you drop off your paperwork and targets you could save time by not repeating my mistake.

Also, when I picked up my modified LTC on Wednesday, Kathrine said that she's very backlogged with over 80 active applications in various stages of review right now.

I picked up a new piece that is going on the permit. Blame the two gun limit.

My understanding is that they white out the rice paper and type the new model on the whited out line. The problem is that miscommunication in the department caused many of us to laminate the paperwork, essentially creating the need to get new rice paper...which has to be signed by the Sheriff. It really shouldn't create much of an issue though because he needs to review and sign off on the new target anyway.

I plan on just filing the paperwork and waiting however long it takes. It's not a huge issue, as I'd rather see the guys waiting for their permits get fast-tracked in the meantime.

Default Suggestions When Applying for Solano County CCW

Suggestions When Applying for Solano County CCW

Print the application form pages, then fill them out using a typewriter, or print plainly, or fill out the PDF forms on the computer, using deskPDF Editor 2012 or similar software that will allow you to load the PDF application and fill it out on your computer.

Download Information Page (4 pages) and Application (21 pages) in PDF Format from Solano County Sheriff’s Office Web Page.
Fill out Acknowledgment Page.
Fill out Pages 3-5, 10-12, and 14. To avoid typing on the lines, your Good Cause Statement (Page 13) might look best if you prepare it on a word processor, as a continuation page.

Some possible points to consider for your Good Cause Statement:
• Are you elderly and/or ill and feeble?
• Do you carry large sums of cash or other valuables?
• Do you drive an unusual, classic, flashy or expensive vehicle that may be targeted by carjackers?
• Does your job or life style require you to wear expensive clothes, a watch or jewelry that could make you a potential target?
• Do you carry a laptop computer, PDA, Smart Phone or other electronic device that contains valuable information, and might be targeted by armed thieves?
• Do you have to visit dangerous neighborhoods, especially at night?
• Have you, your family, friends or acquaintances, been threatened or confronted by gang members, robbers or roving, vicious dogs?
• Have you or a family member been threatened with violence at home, on the phone, by mail or email, at work, school or in the park?
• Are you or any member of your family a victim of stalking?
• Are you a victim of domestic violence or an abusive relationship?
• Have home invasions, armed robberies, carjackings, forcible rapes or murders been committed against you, nearby or where you have to travel?
• Have you been approached by street bullies, drunks, druggies, apparent crazies or aggressive panhandlers who carried sticks, tools, screwdrivers, bottles, knives or other potential weapons?
• Is there drug or gang activity near you?
• Have your children been approached by “stranger danger” types (potential sexual predators or kidnappers) while playing nearby or on their way to school, etc.?
• Do you shop, make deposits or use ATMs after dark?
• Do you leave work after dark, or have to use unpatrolled, poorly-lighted parking lots?
• Have you or members of your family been the victims of road rage, with violence or threats of violence?
• Are you concerned that budgets are being cut and that law enforcement officers in your area are being laid off; and
• Have you heard or read reports of increasing response times for crime emergencies?

Make it clear that you are not looking for trouble and only want to be left alone, but that you believe it to be important that you be able to respond appropriately and effectively should it become necessary to defend yourself and your family. This is reasonable. Choose your words carefully, so as not to sound like a potential vigilante or an aggressive person.

When listing the (maximum of) two weapons to be added to your CCW, make certain that any handgun that you enter on your application was purchased and/or otherwise registered in California.

Do not forget to include with your application:
Driver history report from the DMV;
Copy of California Driver’s License; and
Proof of residence (recent utility bill, auto registration, etc.).

If you have a CCW issued by another state, you may want to include a copy.
