Default Sacramento to San Joaquin move.

I'm considering moving a few miles South which will take me out of Sacramento County and into San Joaquin County.

I know I need to notify Sacramento County of the move and apply in San Joaquin, but my question is what happens during the potentially long process of waiting for my San Joaquin permit? Will the Sacramento one be revoked immediately and I won't be permitted to carry until I get the San Joaquin one?

I assume since I need to be a resident of San Joaquin to apply that I'll have to wait till after I move to submit the paperwork which means there could be a significant time in between permits.

Has anyone made this move and how did it play out? Did already having a Sacramento permit speed up the process?

To the best of my knowledge it is a minimum 12 month process in SJ county. Took me 15 months.

Correct, your permit will be null and you will not be able to carry until you get a new one.

There is no "grace period" for carry.

Per the Sacramento County Sheriff's website:

You have to notify them of the move. It will then expire 90 days later.

I'd recommend starting the process as SOON as possible in San Joaquin County (you'll need the normal documentation). Unfortunately, you will probably have a significant gap between expiration and getting your new one. Even if the old one has an expiration date, the county you move out of will notify DOJ of the expiration - if you get into any situation where you have to provide the paperwork, it will be as if you are carrying without a license.
