Default Armscor ammo blew up in my sig...

Was out firing my sig mosquito today and a round of armscor ammunition (.22lr) exploded inside the weapon spraying fragments into face.. Was NOT fun , managed to recover the exploded rim on the ground, and upon closer inspection of the weapon noticed that the rest of the brass was lodged inside the chamber and was removed with a cleaning rod and a small mallot.

its just a standard sig moquito, it did not appear to be damaged. How is the quality of this ammo compared to american bulk stuff such as winchester or remington?

Perhaps have the headspace checked. But I've seen it happen with .22lr's before, even $1500 match rifles with standard velocity ammo. It just happens some times I think.

Complete head separation.
Just above the rim, where the case metal is thin and has been worked (formed) the most.
I have seen quite a few case / rim blowouts on .22s, but never the whole case head coming off.
Good show, old chap!

You might want to look at some of the unfired ammo cases to see if there is a shiny ring just above the rim...could be a sign of over stressing the metal.

Thanks for the info. I've used Armscor .22lr 36gr HP in my Beretta 21a (Bobcat) and in my Beretta Model 70 with no problems. I also use CCI Stingers 32gr JHP and Aquila (Mexico) Interceptor 40gr solid core with out problems.

As we know, Armscor rimfire ammo is made in the Philippines.

I have had this happen mutiple times with armscore ammo. Even watched it happen to another guy the same day. Every time I've seen it, the bullet was stuck in the barrel too. I won't shoot this ammo anymore because of this.

Anyone had problems with Armscor .45? I have 500 rounds sitting in a box...

I did a search and didn't see any bad reviews on the .45 before I made my purchase.

There's some possibility the gun fired out of battery and thus it wouldn't necessarily be the ammo's fault.

I had this happen with my Ruger MK III, part of the case stuck in the barrel. Had to use a cleaning rod to get it out. I dont shoot Armscore anymore.

Given all the problems of the SIG Mosquito, is it possible that it wasn't the ammo??

Firing out of battery causes the problems you describe, and it is a characteristic of the SIG Mosquito.

Its possible. my sig loves winchester and remington bulk ammo and ive shot about 5,000 rnds thru it. This is the first time anything like this has happened with the mosquito, and this is the first time I've shot armscor ammo thru it. Funny thing I noticed, I shot the armscor ammo in my ruger 1022 and it spits fragments out the ejection port that sting my arm. Weird stuff, I wont buy anymore of it.

I too would have to go with the idea of the round going off before the bolt was completely closed (out of battery)---however---having seen the post about Armscor ammo spitting bits out of the ejection port of the 10-22 leads me to believe there is something wrong with the ammo!
