Default Are GI parts in Springfield M1As overrated?

Just askin'

I know USGI parts are good and becoming increasingly rare...but are they SA Inc. parts really that bad? I'm referring to posts I've read on other boards. You'd think from reading some that SA Inc. parts are junk.

I've owned springfield armory rifles before and intend to buy one in the near future. They are VERY NICE rifles and are very accurate.

GI parts are not overrated. SA, Inc. parts are underrated. 'cept the extractors, but that's an easy 5 min. fix.

get a .30-06 empty and a USGI extractor.

put .30-06 case in chamber. bush bolt forward as far as it will go. pry out old extractor, pop in new one. Ta-dum!

M14 forums has a nice writeup on how to do this. I think you have to join as a member to view it.

The only non-USGI part I have a real b*tch about on Springfield Armory M1As is the lack of a chrome-lined barrel.

Fortuntely, I got mine back in 2000 when they were still shipping TRW & H&R chromed bbls on their standard base models.

People have been looking for years to describe the difference, and you are the first person that actually wrote something that is completely correct. It will be used in the future!
