Default Ed Brown's new Gen III coating

Ed Brown has recently introduced a new protective coating for firearms, called Gen III. It is black, and gives the look/feel of a traditional matte blued finish. It is very durable, and provides superior corrosion resistance. See: http://www.edbrown.com/genIII.htm

The prices when specifying this finish for an ordered are shown on that page. Unfortunately, for us in California, we must first take possession of the California-certified version (meaning in-the-white beadblasted stainless steel Kobra Carry, or traditional blued carbon steel Executive Target), then send them back to Ed Brown for applying the Gen III coating, which is $295 for a complete pistol.

Anyway, I had one of my KCs and my EE done with this finish. My EE is also Bobtailed, which was done last Summer by Ed Brown. Note that both are all-stainless pistols.

Here are before/after photos of the EE, using a couple types of grips:

Here is the same for my Gen III coated KC, also showing various grips:

More views of the above two pistols are at my 1911 page, including high-resolution versions for use as desktops: http://www.praxagora.com/lunde/1911s.html

Hey Dr. Lunde-

Thanks for all the photos through the years, they've been awesome! (the P7's are my favorite). I was wondering if you've had a chance to "use/abuse" this finish any? I've tried duracoat, KG Gunkote, Alumahyde..etc, and was wondering how well this particular finish stood up in daily "usage"...

Kudos for the update regarding this new finish offered by Ed Brown. Im going to definitely check out that link.
