Default Friends of NRA 7/24 USS Hornet

Are there any CalGunners intrested in meeting up or getting a group together next Saturday? I'll be bringing my 12yo son.

Unfortuantely I can't be at this one as much as I'd love to (family visit)

But this will be a FUN one. Great food, great folk, and great guns.

There's a fair chance you win a gun if you get raffle tix.

What is the difference between regular and couple tickets?

ETA: I found the link to the flier on the page. The difference is the raffle tickets.

I can't speak for their dinner, but at our dinner, we don't care what age you are. Everyone's money is the same.

Now if a kid wins a gun, we expect a responsible adult to do the paperwork with the FFL. If a kid won some booze, we would not give it to the kid.

At the event, just buy a bunch of tickets and give them to the kid and let him run up there if you win something. No one is going to sweat it as long as a responsible adult is in the same building.

The USS Hornet Museum? I didn't know about this. I am currently doing some research on it. It sounds like I might have to visit someday. What a cool place to have a FNRA dinner.

Allocate a full day. They have several tours. I believe some parts of the ship, like the island, can only be seen on tour, so figure out which tours and when, then spend your free time ogling the planes and whatever else you can see without a tour.

If you ever get to San Diego, go see the USS Midway museum ship. It's the class following the Hornet (Essex class), just two years later, with the main difference being the extra beam. I spent three years on the USS Midway and the Hornet hangar bay seemed incredibly narrow in comparison. The later carriers (Forrestal, nukes) are not only wider, but the hangar bay is 3 decks high, not just two.

It is a cool place to have any kind of a function with people who appreciate history, patriotism, and our military.

I upgraded my purchase from 2 dinner tickets to a Plus Pak. For the additional $50 I receive $100 in special drawing tickets and the option to arrive early and take the VIP Tour of the ship. .
It's for a good cause, so what's $50 for our 2A rights!
The boy wants in on the flight simulator and is asking for any guns won to go his way...Yea, right!

Had a great time. Blanked on the raffles but my daughter won a BB gun. She's 4 months old so she won't get to use it for a little while.

You definitely need to go check it out! I've been on board many times and have had a few complete tours. Don't miss the engine room or the island. I also slept overnight on the ship as part of a program they do with Boy Scouts. That was fun but pretty scary. The ship has a lot of paranormal activity, if you believe in that sort of thing.
