PEQ-15/ATPIAL: (Advanced Target Pointer/ Illuminator/ Aiming Light)

Basically it is a Laser/Flashlight Box with both an IR Laser + Light w/visible settings as well.

It also has a small battery storage compartment.

I think I read in the "night fighting rig gallery" that you can own it, but its illegal in CA to acually use it with night vision. Which makes it pointless to own if you can use night vision when its on.

I could be wrong

Nope. Not legally. Anyone can own/possess one.

Most retailers don't sell these to civilians but most LEO and MIL (sometimes stolen... look out for removed serial marks, excuses such as "fell out of a truck" ) that sell theirs make there ways to civilians...

I always wanted to make my own... I would expect it to be quite cheaper then buying a PEQ-15.

You would use it in a "no-light" carbine course! A great course to take but expensive as H3LL with all the "goodies" that are required for the class. NV goggles, helmet, NV mounting gear, Full armor kit, med kit etc.

Will you elaborate on your answer for us? Owning/possessing are different than mounting/using in combination with nv goggles. What exacty is legal?

you can hunt with a night vision as long as it isn't equip with a IR. the trick is, you can hunt with it with a IR mounted else where, not on the gun. it gets crazy but you can own em.

You cannot legally mount a NV device that has an IR Illuminator on a rifle but you can use it if mounted elsewhere such as helmet mounted.

Yeah, you got it. You can have the PEQ or other IR lights/lasers mounted on the gun as long as a NV optic is also not mounted. You can wear the NV on a helmet/handheld or whatever as long as its not attached to the rifle.

Or you can say its for "scientific/educational" purpposes. (One of the "exceptions" in the code.

From what I read, the box is a light, laser, and IR illuminator.

If it is also a light, why does that guy have what looks like to be at least 1 flashlight, maybe two on the rifle?

Isn't that overkill?

Wait, that's an AR. Nevermind...

Believe it or not I know someone local to us that went to a pawn shop and saw one under the counter. He then asked about it and the pawn shop said they didn't know much about it. Then offered a price of $250. It was quickly purchased. After that they brought it to our shop to get a rifle to put it on.

It's only an IR illumination. For visible light you need a different light.
