Default 1911 Commander sized rail gun 45acp ??

Been pestering Kimber about when the Pro TLE/RL II would be added to the Certified list... finally got a response: There are no plans to make it CA friendly.

Soooo.. Any other Commander sized 1911's with rails out there to be had? With no 1911 CA options, I may have to go with an HK USP Compact or the new Springfield Armory XD in 4".

Help?

Why do you need a rail? (not flaming you, there are many potentially good reasons, but there are also bad ones >.>) Just make sure it's something you need before you base your choice of pistol around a rail.

Try getting in touch with Dawson Precision and see if they'll do a retrofit on a Commander-sized 1911 for you.

I know they've been doing this for a while on the full-sized 1911s and if memory serves correctly they also did a quantity of Kimbers for the USMC within the past few years.

Yeah... Piece would double as a carry/travel weapon and as a bedside companion. I take my Operator w/ a M6 laser/light out of a Mossberg Pistol safe when home and keep it near by.

When "out and about" I typically take a Glock 36 or my wife's Lightweight Officer's.

Just trying to keep the daily routine to one piece for consistancy's sake.

surefire makes a piece that fits on using the slide stop. Making it a removeable rail, and it looks good too.

OH!! I think I remember reading about these guys in a recent gun magazine (I forget which one). SO I could take a Kimber Tactical PRO (on the CA list) and have them install their Light Rail System... hmmmm all I could see were references to the Surefire x200 as being compatible - I fired off an e-mail to their tech department and posed two questions:

Will the Insight/Streamlight M6/M6x fit their rail, and if so... can they install it on a Commander sized pistol.

Will let ya'll know when I get an official response.

Now what to do with the Colt Commander slide assembly that is on it's way...

Springfield Armory will be selling a Ca approved Champion with a rail. It was at shot and they said it had been submitted for approval already. PX9115L is what the model number will be.

Is this it? It looks alright... but it would certainly not be as sleek as a factory or custom rail. If possible, I'd like to keep the clean lines of the 1911 intact when the accessory light/laser is not installed, and hopefully use the same leather.

The Dawson Precision rail is less @ $119, but admittedly makes permanent mods to the weapon. Depends on what's more important to the shooter, I guess... thanks for the tip though!

NICE... I knew that they had the Micro with a rail, but I dislike it's two-tone setup (stainless upper, blued/black lower):

I prefer the reverse two tone (Kimber Pro Elite):

THANKS 4 this... It's a lightweight too (aluminum frame I guess?)!! I have something to look forward to!!

That's too bad. Would be interesting to see a retro-fit like the one you're wanting.

Good info for anyone else should this question pop up again in the future.

Default as promised...

Ok... got the Commander slide today here's how it looked fresh out of the box, decent condition, barrel perfect. Looks like it might've been carried some, but not shot a lot:

Tried to slap it on my Operator, this is about as far as it fit, pretty tight right here:

So couple of questions:
1. If I decide to have this slide fitted to my Operator, can the work be done such that ONLY the slide is 'smithed/modified - leaving the frame UNTOUCHED so as not to interfere with the original setup so I can swap back and forth as needed?

2. Seeing as I'll be creating a "Frankenstein-1911" would having new sights installed and the slide re-finished matter much value-wise?

3. Should I just sit tight and wait for the Champion w/ rails mentioned above to appear, leaving my Operator as is, maybe fitting the commander slide to one of my other 1911's?

Ahhh, the tough questions in life... I'll worry about funding my 2 year old's college tuition NEXT year, right?

Got the response from SA concerning the Lightweight Champion w/ rail that you saw at SHOT... possibly as early as July or August!! Awww, yeah!!

"Those are not yet on our production schedule so your dealer cannot place an order. I would try back in July or August to check itís production."

Have a great day!

Default Another 1911 rail option!!

Novak's has produced a retrofit:

http://www.novaksights.com/novak%201...ht%20rail.html

So if that SA Champion doesn't make the CA list, looks like I could pick up any Commander sized 1911 and have a rail installed. Maybe even a Colt, before it drops off the list this November.

Sweeeeeeet...

I believe Wilson makes a bolt-on rail as well.

Yeah, saw this... but it's not listed as a part available to buy on their site... just as part of one of their custom pistols. Gonna drop them a line to see what the deal is.... thanks for the tip!

Yost-Bonitz makes a rail, too. They are always interested in new projects. You should contact them.

Default Getting closer!!

The Lightweight Champion Operator is one step closer... up on the SA web site with a picture now. But still not in production nor on the DOJ list, but SA assures me it will be!

http://www.springfield-armory.com/im...9115LLarge.jpg

AND get this, We might see the FULL RAIL Operator again!! SWEET :

" It is possible that sometime in the distant future we will bring back the full rail on the Operator, but for now all we are producing is the shortened rail TRP Operator.
