Default Pig Hunting with Guide - Question

New hunter here and will be going on my first hunt soon. After a sucessfull hunt is it customary to tip your guide? If yes, what percent? Thanks.

Eh. Nice handle dude! Maybe you want to change it so as to avoid confusion. No disrespect intended!

Please don't misunderstand me as I did not mean any disrespect. You have the right to have any handle you choose, however, you must admit it is a bit confusing!

Post a message for PCH on this as he is a professional guide and may be able to advise you on this.

Good luck hunting piggies!

Did PCH get a guide license? That's awsome.

As for the tip, it would depend on how much he works to get you a pig.

10-20% depending on the quality of the experience and how hard he worked.

Guides don't make **** typically so keep that in mind if he busts his butt for you.

Not change it completely but modify it somewhat to avoid confusion. And no offense taken!

This is true, and also just a gift of something usefull is very appropriate as well, maybe a good knife, backpack, good flashlight, don't be affraid to ask your Guide if he needs anything inparticular, you might already own something he want's or you can get it at a good price?

My experience is in the US they would rather have cash. I give cash and equipment when I'm out of the country.

As for the amount it depends. Did they put you on good animals, did they bust their hump trying to get you on good animals, how was their attitude, are they the owner, did they perform any extra services for you (clean your gun, laundry)?

Notice that I did not say did you kill anything.

I tip our hog guide 25$ per day per hunter and he owns the company, provides lunch and works his rear off to get us on good pigs.

I really don't understand tipping owner operators. They set the rate you pay, if they needed more money, they should have charged more. I have no problem slipping a few bucks to the hired help.... but not owner operators.

I will accept any % gratuity or gifts in exchange for guiding a hunt. I just enjoy what I do and dont expect to make money or profit for doing something I have a passion for but if someone wants to throw me some dough I wont put it down.

haha, some of you guys are pretty messed up.. throwing numbers out there so a new hunter will have to chuck out more cash then he has to. Tip'n someone all depends on their duty and how they performed. I wont give s*** to a guide or a waiter or bar tender if they treat me like crap or charge me an arm and a leg for service. If someone treats me golden, I give them as much as I can give. That can be sometimes a few bucks and sometimes a few hundred.

Tipping is optional, depending on the service. You paid for the service, anything beyond that is gratitude for the job.

Who's bigger? Big Jake or BigJake? That should decide it.
