Default New James River Armory M14 Rifle & Cali Questions

We just got in a batch of nice M14 rifles built by James River Armory and they would be a nice addition to our line of California Legal firearms. What would it take to make these CA compliant ? We spoke with the Armory and they will assist in building a batch for our CA customers. Any input would be helpfull.

You just need to replace the flash hider with a non-flash-hider. There are a few options available from different companies. There is even a California legal M14 non-flash-hider with a bayonet lug.

Also, the rifle couldn't be shipped with the standard 20 round magazine. Just include a 10 rounder instead.

I'd certainly consider buying one.

+1

Remove the flash hider and install a muzzle brake.

As for the mag, 10rd mags are ok or disassemble the 20rd mag for use as a parts kit.

That's it. No flash hider (Muzzle brake ok) and a 10 rd mag. Good to go.

No flash hider, no 20 round mag. Need to either give a 10 round mag ir do a 10/20 conversion ( if possible) on the 20 round mag.
The bayo lug is questionable IMO. I would either remove it ( if possible) or order without bayo lug. I have a m14 and I love it.

Yes. There is no reason for it to be permanently attached. You could even sell the rifle here with just a threaded barrel so that the buyer could choose his own California legal muzzle attachment at a later time.

10 - 4 , James River already has CA legal compensators on the way for our CA builds all we need is to locate some nice 10 round mags !! Below is a brief description of the rifles etc

James River Armory is now proud to announce their line of High Quality M14 rifles .These rifles are based on original GI rifle parts with a proper mixture of new high quality US parts . This recipe of quality parts and James Rivers expert builds has yielded a beautiful & accurate rifle platform.

The rifles come with 1 - 20 round mag , rifle hard case and backed up by a 1 year Armory warranty. The rifle shoots 7.62mm semi auto .

1 This is the closest production Semi Auto Civilian M14 to the USGI M14 ever produced.

2 Receiver is Forged and fully machined in Cleveland using original TRW prints and with the assistance of a retired TRW production manager who manufactured the original M14’s in the early 1960’s.

3 Criterion Chrome lined NM barrel. There is no better made or higher quality standard GI contour barrel made. The Best!

4 New production forged bolt.

5 All other parts are excellent condition, refinished USGI. When these run out we are setting up manufacture in the US for the needed components. No Shortcuts!

6 Professionally refinished excellent condition USGI walnut or heavy birch stock. These look new.

7 Dummy selector lock to fill the stock “hole” customer can epoxy into stock. Gives “GI” appearance to rifle.

CMI makes a 10 round mag. They are the current supplier of USGI M14 mags.

Pricey yes, but I would rather buy this than Springfield's NM M1A. They're similarly priced, and the James River receiver is forged versus cast. I also believe that SA's barrel is not chrome lined.

I need more money!!! :-)

They are not cheap rifles at all but very high quality using original GI parts and new GI Spec forged receivers . The Springfield units use a fair amount of cast Imported Chinese parts. In the future they will have a cast receiver model that will be a few hundred dollars less . LRB M14 rifles cost in the $2500 ish range so we thought these were reasonable for the quality & features .

Bingo, Mr Elegante beat me to the punch.

I will just add comment to his above that 'bayonet lugs' are not regulated features in California AW law, so no worry there. [Once mentioned, I figured it might generate a question.]

I'd at least have a thread-protector cap screwed on. I can just see noobs doing thread damage, etc. when they get it out of the box [or when on display rack in a gunshop].

Those receivers are being produced by 7.62mm firearms out in Ohio. I highly suggest people hold off until they work some bugs out.

I'd like to see some range reports on these, they looked like good buys to me when I saw the ad in shotgun news.
