Default M91/30 PU Sniper.

I'm not fully sure if its an original sniper or not. I think the scope is the repro and from my search I think the rifle was originally just a normal M91/30 and someone stuck a scope on it. Its an Izhevsk and a number is on the left side (where the scope mount is) I believe that would be the scope number? Its also a 1943. Also as you can tell from the pictures, there is no numbers on the bolt. Either way though I'm not upset, got it about 2 years ago for $200 and it was the first C&R I ever bought. lol. Noob mistake maybe. haha. Oooh well lessened learned, Do more research before you buy something! lol.

Well here are some pictures:

Looks like a repro to me. Still, $200 isn't bad for a repro at all. Repros these days go for around $400ish. I don't really want a repro, I'd rather save for an original, but $200 for one would be very hard for me to pass up.

Well like I said it was my first C&R and it was 2 years ago when I first started and the guy told me it was legit. Maybe I should sell this and buy a real one, I don't no. haha. Thanks for putting that at rest for me though.

Well, if you do wind up selling this one and getting an original one, Rguns is the only dealer that has them. They aren't cheap though, I think they run $800.

J&G sales has their repro PU's listed at $449, so if you do sell this one, you would be getting a good return on your investment.

Original PU's were all built on round receivers. Original PE's were built on hex receivers.

Sounds like I could get half the price of a real one. Hmmm something to think about. I'd wait until my C&R license gets her though so I don't have to dros etc.

I would think even the repro would still fall under C&R so it would be cash and carry. If not, I'm sure someone will correct me.

Is that rifle parkerized? They should be blued or rubbed off color.

Not a bad price at all for what ya' got...

By the way- the 'triangle with a 1 in it' (above the date) indicates that after WWII it was sent to East Germany (probably not as a sniper though). That makes it a little bit rarer... And more historically interesting to say the least...

I don't think it was. Doesn't look like the parkerized ones I've seen but I could be mistaken.

Thats cool about East Germany. I'm debating on selling it and getting an original M91/30 sniper or keeping it and getting an Original. Decisions decisions.

Also if I take the scope and scope mount off will I have to fill in the holes and where can I get a straight bolt, more original bolt.

I can't believe I missed the DDR mark

If you do sell it, that would add a small premium to the rifle.

Because the scope holes are on the side of the receiver, you can fire this safely without the scope mount on it. I don't know why you would want to, but it would not hurt anything.

you asked if the numbers in front of the scope mount were the scope numbers and the answer is yes. Generally, original Izzy PU snipers had the scopes serial stamped on the side of the receiver just like yours is. This is not conclusive evidence but it is an indication that your rifle could have been a sniper at one time but was desnipered during a refurbishment. During refurbishment scope numbers were either left alone, cleanly lined out, or like my 1942 PU were ground out totally. Now whether or not the numbers on your rifle are legit numbers or added later for whatever reason is uncertain.
I dont know enough to comment on the scope markings or the mount.

Thanks, I'm not totally sure. I was told when I bought it that it was original. But that could be as true as me saying I been to the moon twice. I tried looking but is there a website that has the sniper mark serial numbers, etc, then I could check that way.

Izhevsk scope numbers were not stamped on the side of the receiver, they were stamped on the side of the barrel shank. The numbers on your rifle were probably added by the importer.

Well that's odd. It's not scope numbers from the Soviets, I'm sure of that. I have no idea where the would have come from then.

I have no idea either. Kind of weird and need to do some research on what it is.

The import mark could be under the wood but moslty they are on the barrel towards the muzzle or on the receiver, that looks to be an older import my guess its on the barrel. The numbers are a translated version of the original serial number. because a lot of mosins use Cyrillic letters.

200$ is an excellent deal too. I would have bought it.
