Default HK 91 and MP5 build from flats

Anyone have a source for HK91/G3 and /Or MP5 parts sets? I have access to flats but need to know availability of pars sets. Also, does anyone know the current regs as to when a flat becomes a firearm and any info on avoiding the once a machinegun always a machinegun vs. semiauto build requirements?

the flat has to have a shelf welded onto it thus making it impossible to install a FA trigger set, plus mods to the bolt carrier

I would probably look up the MP5 BP they did awhile ago. A lot of good info on the process.

As stated before, HK 91 kits are almost impossible to find.

Thanks for the inputs. Sound like I might need to find another project. Anyone interested in some flats?

+1 for building a CETME. Put on HK furniture and no one will know the difference.

I think those flats are collectors items now.

besides, they sold the machinery to stamp the receivers. Someone is going to start making them.
And the way you jacked up that receiver at the last build....... pathetic

The shelve only allows semi auto. F/A uses the push pin

Even the contract G3 complete kits are drying up. You can mix and match by gathering parts from all over. RobertRTG and HKParts are two good sources with many choices. I believe there are still CETME available, maybe without the original barrel.

Flat becoming a receiver. general consensus is that as soon as it is folded/bent, it is a legal firearm. That means you cannot ship to just anyone for welding and such.

Good luck and welcome.
You still need to fill out the appropriate ATF form and have the stamp in your possession before you can even begin to build the receiver. Then, as stated by fredie, you still need to find all the parts. Check out the pictures on Turner Fabrications' website http://ensdesignstudios.com/T2/index.html. You can see that there is a whole lot more welding involved than it initially seems. Make sure that you or whomever you get to weld up your build is an experienced TIG welder. As you may have guessed, I too have been researching an HK94 build. I'm thinking it will just be easier (and cheaper) to buy a CA Legal one from Vector, Investment Grade Firearms, or Turner Fabrications.

No you don't. You can bend the flat when ever you want and you don't have to do any paper work.
