Default H&K Tactical in California?

Bring an HK Tactical in California? Hello everyone! I am new to the area and to the forum. I am in the process of moving from NJ to Cali. I have a nice H&K Tactical (threaded barrel) that I would HATE to part with. Can I bring it into Cali when I move?

No, you would have to have the threads removed before bringing it into CA. handgun threaded barrel = an AW. Just do us favor, don't ruin the original barrel, buy another to hack up.

The OP can install a non-threaded barrel to make it legal. The OP can even keep the original threaded barrel, as long as he/she never installs it, onto a semi-auto pistol that uses detachable magazines, while in CA.

The OP can not import any large capacity magazines.
So, the OP will have to...
... prior to coming to CA, dissassemble any large capacity magazines he/she owns and bring them into CA as magazine parts. The OP can use the magazine parts to make permanent 10 round magazines or keep them as parts & never assemble them while in CA.
... store the large capacity magazines in another state.

Also, within 60 days of establishing residency in CA, the OP will need to register all the handguns he/she brings to CA.

WOW! Thank you all for the very detailed answer . I am already glad I joined the forum. I know there are several companies that sell "non threaded" barrels for the tac. It is a shame I can not use the factory barrel though. Any chance these silly rules will be repealed anytime soon?

Stay tuned. The decision in McDonald is due next month and there's a host of lawsuits pending and I'm sure waiting to be filed.

Nope! Despite all the misplaced optimism, KA is still a VERY gun unfriendly state.

Luckily changes are coming via the judiciary and not the legislature. Your neighbors can be as 2A unfriendly as they please. It won't change the fact that there will be controlling case law.
