Need some help guys. Just signed up for my first carbine course. Looking to get a plate carrier. Will probably get plates in the future but I really want it to hold my gear and magazines for the class.

While I would love to get a crye precision, but $500+ is a bit pricy for me. What would you guys recommend? Something that is durable and good value for the money. Probably don't need a quick release since that's such an expensive option. It would be nice if its durable enough for shtf scenarios but I doubt I'll use it much unless for carbine classes.

I'm not in the best shape and starting a work out regiment before my class early next year. I'm 5"10 and chest size is about a 48". What do you guys recommend.

Thanks.

What do you guys have to put in 10 rounder PMAGs? I'm lost finding one that can be attached to a chest rig or a battle belt.

I finally pulled the trigger on a chest rig. Ordered a PIG UCR from skd tac in multicam. Been wanting to get myself one for the longest time to use in a carbine course. Did I make a good choice? I can't even remember the reason why I wanted that chest rig specifically haha.

Anything from SKD... http://www.skdtac.com

Find something that suits your budget and what you plan to use it for (ex. what features you need or don't need).

Carriers: http://www.skdtac.com/Plate-Carriers-s/211.htm
Chest rigs: http://www.skdtac.com/Chest-Rig-s/202.htm

Personally I always suggest the Banshee... I have one and cannot find a single bad thing to say about it. Several members here have also posted their own Banshee carrier. http://www.skdtac.com/Shellback-Bans...-p/shb.125.htm

As for chest rigs, I currently don't own one so I don't have any specific suggestions. But anything from SKD will be solid. I also highly suggest Colin over @ http://762tactical.com. Good guy, good quality gear, fair prices. He hand makes every piece of kit himself, so he can do custom orders too.

The Banshee was once $122.95, you might want to wait for a sale since its about 170$ now.
The only feature I didnt see on it is the side pockets, you have to buy that separately if you want to use side plates. Otherwise it is a great carrier for the $, i have one too.

Wow. I did not notice that. I was unaware of their price increase. It's still a good deal, but it was even better at ~$125.

Eagle MBAV with integrated soft armor, ESAPI plates all around:

1.jpg

I like my carriers slick, 1st line kit stays on my belt in case I ever need to ditch my plates.

I recently upgraded my belt, had an Eagle for a while but I am much happier with the HSGI SureGrip:

That is a Tactical Tailor holster.

I like it a lot, it will accommodate several different pistols with or without lights attached.

It attaches with MALICE clips so you can put it anywhere, I am not a fan of drop leg holsters and I don't always carry the same pistol so this product is ideal for me.

Still need a few things for it, and I might end up changing the enhanced mag shingle, but it's a start.

These all look great.

Question though:

Why does everyone want flat dark earth color? I mean most of us are not in dessert environments here in CA. Why don;t I see any black rigs?

It is really just a fad thing? Does the color matter? I'd like to pick something up soon but I'm not sure which way to go. Multicam? Black? FDE?

Black sticks out like a store thumb in pretty much any environment...FDE is pretty neutral.

I run everything in FDE and Coyote, but I would have bought Multicam if it was available at the times when I made my purchases. Really you have to look at your own environment and assess.

Cause it was free, and black gets hot.

Also, my carrier and belt are coyote brown.

Somebody else said it- FDE/Coyote is a neutral color that is passable in a wide range of environments. Also keep in mind that some of us actually wear these to work, so uniformity is a factor too. I can use a FDE/Coyote rig in ACUs, Multicams, or whatever other pattern or uniform I'm required to wear.

Also anyone who thinks SoCal isn't almost entirely some shade of brown is wrong.

Most of the rigs look brand new and never worn. Were they assembled for actual use, or just put together for photo ops?

If you are not used to wearing a plate carrier and/or a helmet, your back and neck will be hating life big time the first time you try to wear that gear outside all day(s). I would focus less on making it look bichin and focus more on figuring out what you would actually need and stick to that.

I agree that a good carrier is an absolutely essential part of your loadout in preparing for any sort of catastrophic event where anarchy or social unrest breaks out. You just have to spend time familiarizing yourself with it. The first time I had to wear my rig all day I realized it was way too heavy. Before that I thought it was awesome.

Mine definitely sits in my closet and only comes out when I get familiarized and syat ready. Only there for "what if" situation. In my case its the fact that every other house in my area is a marijuana grow operation and every week when I listen to the local radio here there is a home invasion complete with door breaching, rifles (sometimes full auto) where they either kill everyone in the house to get the weed or do what they will with you or other ones in your house while they look for the weed they thought you had, get away in your car with other valuables in the process. This is a reality for those in Humboldt now with the SoCal gangs and Mexican cartels slowly moving north into grow operations in northern CA counties.
Your neighboor could be growing and all it takes is for them to get the wrong address, as has happened many times over and they pay you a deadly visit at 3am. My carrier is an attempt not to become collateral damage in the local drug war in the event these gang bangers try to pay me a visit.
To many, this may seem like more than nessesary but I assure you I have at least a couple friends in town I know of, who have decided to do the same and they arent even in the business or anything like that.
