Default Good scope for a .338 Win Mag

I recently purchased a Ruger .338 Win Mag and was wondering what the best scope would be for it. I've been shooting for quite a while now but don't have much trigger time with scopes. So I thought maybe some of you who do could give me some advice on the matter. Now I do have a Nikon 3-9x40. But I was thinking more along the lines of a 4-16x50, or something in that area. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Guys.

Depends on what ur budget is, and what u r using the rifle for. Probably elk/bear hunting. The nikon 3-9s are nice. For longer range the 4-16 would be nice, but thats a huge optic usually, especially if your hiking for miles into the back country. I would use what you have, then make the decision on whether or not u need the bigger optic.

Yea it's going to be my primary 'big game' rifle. I do have plans on mounting my Nikon for the time being. So I'll see how I like it on the rifle then go from there.
