Default I got my SU-16CA

I finally got the rifle, went out to the range and 3 out of 80 rounds did not fire.
2 different brands (PMC and Winchester) I got a click, waited for a minute then ejected shell (see picture).
Firing pin issue?

Am I sending my new rifle back to the manufacture?

Patience issue in my opinion... don't "jump the gun" (ha) when thinking something's wrong with your rifle.

Shoot another few hundred rounds to get everything broken in, use lots of lube, then if it still malfunctions after about 300 rounds start worrying.

The ammo's from good brands, but it also could just have been bad primers.

I think bad ammo. It looks like the primer has been hit plenty hard, but I'm no expert. Ive never had any issues with my KT and about 1,500 rounds through it. Very little lube on these guns.

P.S. Do yourself a favor and don't get the muzzle brake for it and do get yourself some Federal XM193 to shoot near dusk. The flame is awesome.

Congrats on the SU16! I really like these inexpensive carbines for us here in CA, until we can own un-neutered ARs. You can even use your pre-ban AR mags.

I second jasonnorcal in that those primer strikes look pretty hard.

I'ld disassemble, inspect for anomalies, clean and lube the bolt and have at it again.

What about placing those two rounds in another 223 and try with another firing pin to verify they are "dud primers"?

You don't need to worry, its all a part of the break in for these guns. You should take a look at the kel tec forums for specific information on it. Hope you enjoy its been fun for me so far, I have a CA as well!

No other rifle to try them with, I guess I could've put them in for another try.
3 out of 80 is a high failure but maybe patience is an issue here too.
I'll keep shooting for a while see how it turns out.

I know what you mean, it was the exact same way for me. Have you disassembled and lubed it since you got it? Its known to be a little "dry" from the factory. Also, believe me about the break in. I was a little worried as well but hundreds of rounds later and I've had no FTF/FTE's since.

If you want to facilitate the process, you can polish the bottom of the bolt carrier like in post #9 here:

http://www.ktog.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/Ya...num=1232423897

p.s. i forgot to mention, if you are slightly new to the su-16, you should read that whole thread.

Congratulations on the new rifle!

I tend to agree with asme, break the gun in first then start worrying. You could of just gotta a couple of bad rounds, it happens even with the good brands.

Just getting back to you folks (thanks for responding) it shot fine with 5.56. all day long (100 rounds) at sac valley, appears the problem was something other than the rifle, I kinda like the 5.56...has more kick, and I finally figured out the sight.
Thanks for the positives I love my rifle.
here's a really crappy shoot.
But I got it sighted with iron at 50 yards. (good for me)

with dimples like that, I would say its bad ammo. I have never had any issues with my SU16, nor PMC ammo. although I have only 500 rounds through it.
