Default Lucid HD7?

Anyone messed with one of these? Stumbled on it today, had never heard of it, nor could I find much info. Looks nice.

And, I know, it's not an ACOG, I can get a used Aimpoint, you get what you pay for, it uses a AAA, battery life isn't 2.6 million hours and you can't explore the Marianas Trench with one. I just shoot paper.

Just looking for some people with hands on opinions.

it looks like a mix of the Vortex Strikefire (the 2x screw in magnifier), and the Bushnell Trophy 1x32 red dot (acog look alike).

Just received mine this week, seems very durable, clear glass to the edges and the choices of reticles is a great feature. I was worried about the turrets, but they "click" into place and doesn't seem like they would easily move out of zero. So far I am impressed, heading to the range mon. to try it out.

So took mine out the other day, ran ~500 rounds through the carbine. Once I dialed it in, held zero all day. Reticles are sharp (I stuck with the dot). Very nice optic. It let me hit what I aimed at and didn't move. I'm happy!

Instead of making a new thread, I found this so I'm bringing it back from the dead. For those of you who have the Lucid HD7, does the 2x screw-in eyepiece come with the sight or do you have to buy it separately?

Thanks.

The 2x magnifier was sold as a combo in an introductory promotion. If the HD7 and the 2x magnifier is purchased from LUCID directly, they are separate items. There are a few of my DLRs that sell the HD7 and the 2x magnifier as combinations.

There are so many things I love about this optic but so many things that make me not buy it.

Things I love...AA batteries, multi reticle, rubber housing, auto shut off, auto brightness

Things I hate...Lack of caps for windage\elevation knobs, Not able to use 3rd party mounts. I don't see how I can use a 3 or 4x magnifier with this mount and still keep my BUIS on the rifle.

I hope that if Lucid makes an HD8, they move the battery compartment higher (ala Aimpoint M4), then make the windage\elevation able to be locked or at least offer caps.

Right now, as it is, I bang my rifle around alot and hate to imagine the turrets getting bumped. I would also love to be able to mount this thing in a cantilever mount so I could add a magnifier.

Regards
MP

Dear PC_Load_Letter,

Thank you for the interest in LUCID and the HD7.

Lens Caps, there are several solutions available in lens covers for the HD7. Butler creek and scope coat both make nice solutions. They make lens covers, I make optics, a wise man plays into his strengths and does not in fringe on other peoples patents.

A 3x magnifier actually works quite well, take a visit to the web page and you can see we offer both a selection of magnifiers and mounts. As for the use of a BUIS, the HD7 is a generous lower 1/3 co-whitness.

We do have plans for another version of the HD7 that is more "militarized" this version will have caped turrets and only one reticle to choose from. This is a direct result of the conversations we have had with serious LE & Military operators.

The turrets are very stiff to operate and designed to be so to withstand the most vigorous of use through transitions in a S.W.A.T style training course. The HD7 has proven it's self in several agencies where the operators are very aggressive in their transitions and the HD7 does not loose it's zero.

The mount is built in to the HD7 for several reasons, and yes a cantilevered mount is necessary to place other optics in line. Again see the web site.

I appreciate your comments and if there is anything I can answer for you, please feel free to give me a call.

Thank You & Best Regards,

Jason Wilson

Hi Jason,

Thanks for posting! I think you might have misconstrued some of my comments.

Regarding "caps", I was not referring to flip up caps\lens covers. I really am not interested in those, but was referring to caps for the windage and elevation knobs. BUT, you indicated they are going to be there on the new militarized version so that sounds wonderful.

Also, regarding what I wrote about the use of a magnifier. Perhaps I can explain better.

In the review I read, the reviewer complained of poor eye relief (and of "bulge" of the side piece that interfered with the usage). This review said he had to move his HD7 back further towards his eye.

This is the quote that concerns me..."You are correct, moving in closer was to compensate for the shadow. With and without the magnifier, eye relief is important. This optic, the eye relief required, and where the optic is mounted on the weapon, is more along the lines of a scope verses a red dot such as the Aimpoint or EOTech."

In CQB or fast response shooting, I move my optic almost to the point it's on the handguard. Shooting with both eyes open with the HD7 that close, might be problematic.

That being said, I was expressing concern about the ability to add a magnifier if I wanted to retain my read BUIS.

Anyways, if I had to speak to which reticle to include with the new version, I'd say go with the Eotech style.

Thanks again and perhaps after taxes, I will pick one up.

With the 2x magnifier attached eye relief is required, as is with any magnified optic.

The "Bulge" on the side is not visible with the 2x magnifier attached.

The "Bulge" is the reticle / led house. this is only visible when using the optic with out a magnifier. However, when used properly in a both eyes pen, heads up operation this is not very noticeable.

Granted the 2x magnifier's optical quality needs work, this was a direct response to a short time frame request from S.W.A.T operators. We are currently working on the issue.

With the right mount maintaining a BUIS is not a problem.

Looking forward to having you as one of the LUCID customer family.

Jason,

Any chance you have a release day for the mil version of the HD7? I'd really love to get those capped turrets.

But good to know Parallax has them. They are 20 minutes from me so perhaps I'll go take a look.

Hi Jason,
First off. The HD7 looks like a fantastic product. Do you know anyone in the LA area that has them so i can check it out? I'd love to check out the weight and eye relief for myself on my gun.

thanks , can't wait to see what else you come up with

I just found out about Lucid HD7 yesterday - and did a bunch of research last night... I didnt know this thread existed until now

From what I've read/seen (in various web searches), I love everything about it - other than how high it sits... I understand it's designed for an AR, but I was hoping to use it on an AK (but it's just too high)...

Jason, is there any chance of a similar version with interchangeable mount spacers/adapters (like the Vortex Sparc, and I'm sure others)?... If I could get the HD7 about 3/4"-1" shorter it would be perfect!

Send an email directly to Jason Wilson with questions, he responds pretty quick. Or, PM to Globeflyer, I bought my HD7 from him. I think it's $189 with a coupon code.

I picked one up a week or so ago and just got to take it out this weekend.

Its a great sight for plinking. It seems exceptionally solid with clear optics and positive clicks on the turrets. Bumping this thing will no knock off the zero.

The 2 "cool" factor things are the auto adjusting reticle brightness and the selectable reticle.

I do have some issues though. The auto brightness works great if you and your target are in the same light, otherwise you have to go manual and set it. I do have some slight POI shift when changing reticles but not more than 1 MOA. And the last but most bothersome to me, the markings on the turrets do no match the MOA count or click counts.

Other than these things, it is awesome. Head and shoulders above the knockoff aimpoint i had before.

Supposedly Jason at Lucid is coming out with a "militarized" version of the HD7. I will include a single reticle and capped turrets.

I would surely pick one of these newer versions. Until then, my PA micro dot works great and has capped turrets that cant be bumped and loose zero.

just got my HD7 today... quality unit - the 2x magnifier is much better than the one that came with my Vortex Sparc (the Sparc scope itself is real good though).

I havent had a chance to shoot with the HD7 yet, but from messing around with it and close examination I am very happy so far.

Have Lucid's 2x-5x magnifier on order and based upon the 2x, I'm pretty sure it will be real good.

The deals that Globeflyer has right now are the cheapest I could find - recommended!

OT but over at arfcom, a guy in the optics thread picked up one of the new Lucid 2-5x magnifiers. Worked okay for him but had to send it back as it soon broke.

I think I will be trying out the new 7x Primary Arms magnifier.

what broke? Its pretty durable and even though its variable, there really isnt a lot of complexity to it - so I cant imagine what would break or why?... got a link to the thread?
