Default Vintage Savage Model 99F lever action .308

Savage 99F .308

Safety is on the lever. On the lever boss it looks like an SP or a dS and the other oval contains the number 236. Serial number is 901XXX

Older rifle.. I think from the late 50s. Uses a 5-round rotary internal magazine and is lever action.

Has a K4-60-B Weaver scope and mounts from the same era. Origianal blueing on the rifle.

The stock is not original, but a very nicely done set of custom furniture. Rifle shoots great and has take a number of deer and elk. I've had it for around 20 years where it's only had MAYBE 50 rnds through it. Sad to see it be a safe queen but I'm into shooting other stuff. It was a family member that made the stock and while it's not original, it sure looks better, is of better quality and feels better than stock. I'm pretty sure the bluing is original.

$590 obo -- prefer local but will ship at buyers expense.

You had a pretty talented relative. These are some of the best Savage lever guns because they are Featherweights like the old Savages (6.5 lbs with orig. stock) but are slightly opened up inside to accomodate the 308 length cartridges. Mine is a 1955 .243.
This is an excellent price but these guns get ignored here. I wish younger shooters appreciated these. Good luck!

That's a good question..

I'm pretty sure it's from the 50s.. which would make it over 50 years old.

Does that mean it can be sold between two private parties without going to an FFL and do the DROS dance?

Any "experts" know?

Offer withdrawn. No response from seller.

It was an impulse offer anyway.... like I need another gun.

BATFE C&R manual notes on Savage 99...

Quote:
Savage Arms, model 99, lever action, centerfire rifles, mfd. in Utica, NY prior to World War II with S/Ns below 450000.
A .308 would not fit those criteria.

That said, free bump for an absolute beauty. The stock and fore end are beautiful. This rifle will almost certainly be supremely accurate and a great, fast shooter. Great price for a great gun.

It doesn't have to be in the BATFE C&R list to be considered C&R. All it has to be is over 50 years old and it is automatically C&R according to BATFE. If this rifle was manufactured before today's date in 1960 then it is C&R according to the BATFE. And C&R long guns over 50 years old can be transfered between Californians without going through an FFL.
