Default It's ugly and plastic fantastic, but I love her...

Just snapped this. Love my 1911's but this just does everything well with no BS. My HD and SHTF go-to handgun. (Slide was polished with sandpaper. No, I don't need a lecture on Tenifer. I've discussed it already.)

Cheers!

Too much plastic and polymer for me. Then again, I hate almost all new guns.

I hate glocks.... they have no soul.... no quirks and no personality.

Which is exactly why I prefer them for self defense/home defense/SHTF

You can throw it away, pick up another one and not notice/not care.

They get the job done and make no pretense about it.

Gawd awful ugly as sin killing machines....

Yup, when the bullets start flying, the first thing you care about is if you're about to be shot by a gun with character.... They do the job, with little fan fare, pomp, or circumstance.

Forget the tenifer, if you like that look, send the slide to Robar for their NP5+ finish.

Don,

Not a lecture just a question. Was the slide originally Tenifer and you sanded the Tenifer off?

If so, I thought Tenifer is supposed to be harder than diamonds and impervious to a direct hit with a nuclear weapon after spending months immersed in acid. How could sandpaper scratch it?

I like the look, a lot, by the way.

The Tenifer is not actually the black coating, it's a surface refinement on the actual bare metal slide so you are not removing the Tenifer when you remove the black. It actually not that hard to scratch the black of the slide.

OP, nice looking Glock!

Thanks! We discussed this about a year ago already in thread below...
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=163829

The Tenifer-treated slide and barrel

Glock barrels and slides are made from quality steel which has been treated with a special "Tenifer" process. This colorless carbo-nitrate formula enriches the steel with oxygen, sealing its pores. Tenifer makes the steel extremely hard (as hard as industrial diamond on the Rockwell scale) and corrosion resistant. The steel will not scratch or rust, period! In fact, the slide is so hard you can use it to sharpen your knives.

The barrel is treated both inside and out. Because of this, Glock barrels do not show the normal wear associated with untreated barrels by other manufacturers. Glock, Inc., has one barrel which has fired one million rounds and still works; another has fired 300,000 rounds and still shoots better than 1" groups!

Glock also parkerizes the slide and barrel to give them a matte black color. While the parkerizing might wear off showing "bare" steel beneath, the Tenifer is still there. In fact, it penetrates the steel to a depth of three microns. Even a Glock which has lost all of its matte black finish is still scratch- and rust-proof.

Why does everybody think they're ugly? Not my cup o' tea, really(pistols should be metal & have a hammer), but I don't think they're THAT bad. Certainly no worse than all the other Xtreme Railed Tactical Ninja Plastic "Me Too" guns out there.

The contrasting serrations is a nice touch, BTW.

I feel ya, I've been SERIOUSLY contemplating getting a G19 for HD. They're just so simple and reliable that's almost stupid not to have a Glock.

Yup.

It's almost as if it doesn't matter if you like them or not...you should simply have one if nothing more than a tool to have.

I wholeheartedly agree. I might have to dip into my investment money to buy one. I've been holding out for a 1911, but a Glock is calling my name.

Eventually I could fill out my lineup with an HK USP, Sig 229, Glock 19 and a Springfield Loaded.....for now.

Trust me, I have a gorgeous modded out Kimber Stainless 1911 but the Glock has taken over for some reason. Seriously never thought I'd be thinking like this. I was an "all metal" and 1911 handgun type of guy through and through for awhile.

I rarely even use the safety on any of my guns, if I am ever in the position where the safety is the only thing preventing somebody from getting hurt than there is something seriously wrong.

Do you have any pics of the top of the slide? Not sure if you "just" did the sides.

I'm contemplating picking up a G19 to do this!

Don't have pics of the top. I just sanded the flat sides only. Easy to do on a flat surface like a glass table top and with a large piece of sandpaper. Just stroke smoothly up and down in a straight path best you can..."that's what she said!" haha

Here's pics of all the polished parts/internals.
