+1 for a sticky! 80% receivers are more prolific than ever, just look at the number of 'paperweight' group buys going on in the commercial sales sub-forum!

They need to be at least 1/16 tall and 3 thousandths deep.
The smallest I can make them is about 1/8"

I have to put in my good word in here. I used all the meathods in this thread for anodizing and etching. It went REALLY well. Looks fantastic, and non of it was hard. A bit of preplanning involved and careful attention to detail, but over-all, I am extremely satisfied.

The vender for the pro anodizing dyes was great. I used the olive drab as I am a bit of a cheap *****. I left it in the dye for 20 min at 120 deg. F, and it turned out so dark that when I oiled it it is hard to tell it is not black. The anodizing is pretty dog-gone hard too. Probably not as thick as mil spec Type III, but plenty sufficient none the less.

Thanks Vaderspade for all your guidence. You got my vote!!!!

So I just finished milling everything out but I have one problem, the holes for the trigger pin are just a bit off so the trigger is binding - used the jig guess the bit just walked a little. any ideas for a fix?

I haven't heard of that problem, maybe someone else can help.
I have one idea but it's not a cheap one.
A drop in trigger set would solve the problem, if only one hole is off. You would need to redrill the hole where it needs to be. With the pins through the drop in trigger I think they would stay put, a little JB weld to be sure.

How do you know the holes are off? What do you mean by binding? Does it bind with just the trigger and trigger pin installed? Or do you mean it binds up with all the FCG parts installed. What I am getting at here is that it is hard to mill that deep, with that small of an endmill, without getting some tool deflection. If it is just the trigger alone, there may be some taper to the wall making the trigger a fit tight. Mine did this. A small amount of emery cloth and a tiny bit of sanding was all it took. Can you easily slide the trigger all the way to the bottom of the pocket?

Did you mill the pocket before you drilled the trigger pins? This is a must, as the small dia. drill bit will walk if you try to drill though a thick piece, think banana shaped hole. If you do it as a final step it greatly reduces the flex of the bit.

^ what craneman said.
check the hole positions too against the jig and/or with calipers or DRO; don't just assume the holes are off b/c you don't have smooth FCG operation.
if they are indeed off, you can go to bigger pins and/or a drop in trigger set as VaderSpade suggested, or drill the holes out & put bushings in (which you'd probably want someone else to do for you...)

If the holes don't have to be opened too much, or off by too much, you probably can use the pins from KNS Precision. I needed them on my first lower because the drill bit I used make the hole just a hair big.

Going to give this a shot - if they dont work ill just use them on a future build and try something else. One way or another I will post the results

Think this was my problem yes I drilled the holes first - Yes I did make a note of it in my book for future builds.

Also I used an old cell phone charger cut the end off and put some aligator clips on it and tested it on some scrap. It works to electro etch, its VERY slow but that just means I have a project to work on for a while. I used blue painters tape and that worked to keep the etching neat and clean but I bought some vinyl for the final etching just have to get my buddy to cut it.

Now I just have to figure out what cal to get for the upper....

Relax, it's just an oversight, not b/c of something you did or said.
I'm sure if the case is made in a way other than posting "my thread should be stickied!" in the thread in question, it will happen. i'll see what i can do.

I believe someone simply needs to directly ask a moderator to sticky a thread.
Whether they will or not, I dunno.

Been reading this post on a few sites. I just keep reading it over and over to hopefully get my confidence up enuff to make the next step.

I have a 9" drill press I am pretty sure it will work and looking at getting a Grizzly X/Y axis table for the DP.

Thanks for the guidance Vader!!!
