Default San Diego County BLM shooting areas...

Hey guys I have a question,

I noticed there are some other users on here who occasionally ask for info regarding outdoor "shooting areas" near their location...

I would appreciate some information regarding any outdoor shooting areas you guys go to in San Diego County. I called the BLM office in Palm Springs and they said I can go pretty much anywhere on BLM land in the county as long as I'm safe (150 ft away from roads/structures, shooting against a natural backstop, etc) excepting table mountain in Jacumba, Otay Mountain/Truck Trail, and Aguaunga (sp?). Using this info and their maps, I found some areas that I think I should consider checking out near Warner Springs, but I'm unsure if people have shot or been shooting in the area. I want to go somewhere where I know people have been going so I'm sure that I am shooting in the "right" place.

I know about Orosco Ridge and Palomar Divide, but those are closed due to road conditions apparently... so I'm researching other places to go in the meantime. I used to go out to Table Mountain/Carrizo Gorge occasionally, but since that's closed now I don't know of any other areas.

Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I was told by a park ranger that Palomar divide road in the CNF was open to hunting but not for target shooting. Too bad its closed I like taking my baja bug up there. Good luck on finding a spot!

There's a ton of BLM land up near Chihuahua Valley on the border of Riverside and SD counties. I'm thinking of checking that out. Anyone know of this area? I just want to be able to do a day of wheeling and shooting haha.

I can't, my day is tied up (got a transfer day thing at USD). Thanks for the offer, though.

I've read about brokeback here and there on these forums, so I'm definitely interested in heading out there sometime.

http://www.sdsheriff.net/documents/shooting_map.pdf

this is a good map yet does not describe what is restricted in shooting regulation restricted areas 1, 2, and 3. they are not red areas where shooting is not allowed. also i was told white areas shooting is allowed, yet am still going to look into it further by calling blm and sheriff.

Holy necropost.

Thanks for the map there Tjburke. Back when I made this thread, I did a little research of my own to find a couple of spots I now frequent. That map of yours is pretty generalized. I would stay away from shooting on just any land in the white though.
