Default Top 10 CQB rifles on Military channel

Any one see it? I watched it last night. Some neat stuff I wish us civies could have in CA.

Funny thing I noticed though was that as much as they bagged on the M4/M16 as not being good for CQB, like 5 or 6 out of the 10 were basically shortbarreled M4/M16 knock-offs with only mods like piston uppers and different calibers.

So why not at least give credit to the good original design(er) instead of acting like they just invented the greatest thing since sliced bread? When it seems more like they just improved on someone elses sliced bread idea.

Dont remember them all.

There was the (in no particular order) UZI, HK G3, MP 5, That fold-up-in-your-pocket Magpul experimental one, the KRIS (I think that's how it's spelled, and like 5 shortbarreled M4/M16 knock-offs. ETA - I forgot that Israeli "cornershot" was in there too. So maybe there was only 4 AR/M4 knockoffs.

The KRIS was #1.

The M16 took second and the AK took first, if it was the one I saw last night. It was listed as CQB, but the show that was on was top 10 assault rifles...

That was the top 10 battle/assault rifle show. Right after that was a whole show on CQB rifles/submachine guns

I think that in close quarters like a house, a little pistol calibered carbine would be perfect.. so it'd make sense..
other than a shotgun, but they aren't as maneuverable so they have cons. but their stopping power is unrivaled

The KIRSS? I don't think any police or military uses them... hard to compare it with those that have (MP5, UMP, Uzi ect.).

Yes....one of the criteria on the list for each weapon was reliability, and since many of the ones selected were fairly new/experimental and not widely used it's hard to see how they could accurately rate long term reliability, based on only factory testing.

I mean the M16 when first fielded was touted as not needing to be cleaned, buy once in the field they figgered out purdy darn quick that wasn't the case.

I take some of these shows with a grain of salt. I just don't think you can compare "expected performance and reliabilty" with actual years of field proven reliability.

I've seen the episode like 4 times since I have the show set to record on my DVR. From what I can recall, it was something like this:

10. Knight's Armament PDW (USA)
09. Frefran's SOAR (Philippines)
08. HK G36c (Germany)
07. UZI (Israel)
06. Corner Shot (Israel)
05. Magpul FMG9 (USA)
04. LWRC M6 PSD (USA)
03. HK MP7 (Germany)
02. FN P90 (Belgium)
01. KRISS (USA)

the one that really got me tweaked was the one on the top10 sniper rifles #10 was the Knight Armroment m110, i tinhk thats the designation, and the #9 LWRC SABR. the advantage of the SABR was that it could change upper easily..and im tihnking why cant the Knights Arm be switched out as well. and when they were filming the guy shooting the SABR he was having to manually cylce the bolt everyshot.

That is another old myth. It wasn't sold to the military as a rifle that didn't need cleaning and once it got onto the field it was extremely reliable. The original Colts were issued to advisors in Vietnam who strongly suggested the rifle to the military and extensive testing by the USAF and at several military bases including the Aberdeen proving grounds found the rifle extremely reliable, moreso than the M14. It was when the Army officially issued it, sometime around the A1 model, the Army used powders (against Stoner's recommendation) that caused a large amount of problems. The problems were largely only related to the powder and had nothing to do with the environment.

What we know today is far different than what we thought of the AR15 then, it was considered a failure that needed to be "white glove" clean and amongst other myths that the gas rings need lining up. The truth is it is a very reliable weapon system, and is even more reliable with the proper lubrication, it doesn't need a "white glove" cleaning, and the gas rings definitely don't need to be lined up.

I'd take this show with a grain of salt. You have to remember that these are viewer submitted votes to their web site. It's not like they went out to magazine editors, competition shooters, experts in the field, or anything like that. These were more than likely Modern Warfare 2 teenagers logging into their website and submitting their votes for the most futuristic weapon on the list hence the winner being the KRISS.

I did notice that it mostly seemed to be manufacter reps that were interviewed with each rifle.....not guys who have actually used them in the field.

I've always wanted the KAC PDW, that thing loooks like fun. The shooting it on the show seemed clumsy with it though.

Seriously. The MP5 is hands down the single-most used tactical CQB weapon on earth and it didn't even make the list? And c'mon, the UMP is used by more PDs than the KRISS. And I've shot the KRISS and it doesn't feel nearly as comfortable as the PS90/P90.

My coworker has the P90 and I honestly dont like the feel or anything about it. I think he is even trading it in for something else. I mean its an ok weapon for what it is but it just wasnt for me. I will gladly take my Colt, DDM4, and my old Barrett 6.8 over that any day of the week.
The KRISS is much more comfortable to shoot for me and I am an owner and have shot both with over 500 rounds.

I do think that the KRISS Super V is good for what it does and it is the new kid on the block so many people will be skeptical and some just dont like change, even if its for the better. Thats how society is.

I sent the CEO (he actually sent me an email asking how I liked the KRISS) of TDI an email asking about a 5.56 mm TDI weapon and they said that it is in the works and they were looking at the 7.62 as well but all things take time and research and of course money. If that comes out I would love to see it match up with the Colt, Bushmaster, Noveske, Daniel Defense, LMT, RRA, etc...

Top Ten Assault rifles was a good show. Had some great weapons. If that's the one you're talking about. Magpul FMG 9
is awesome even though it's a .45. Military channel has had several shows featuring 6.8's. I forget the show Mac does,
but on one episode he went to Murfreesboro and had fun with a Barrett 6.8,M4/16 and an AK. A very impressive demo about the 6.8.

I believe that they populate the lists for these "top 10" shows with weapons that they already have film footage for. Just a way to create another show without having to use a camara crew. More milage out of legacy footage. Alot of their picks flat out don't make sense otherwise. REPR as a top 10 sniper rifle? Really, the thing hadn't even been released when that show came out. I believe that one one was just rehashed "Future Weapons" footage. Should be called the "Top 10 CQB Concept Weapons". How many of those Magpul prototypes even exist.....
