Is this a tactical/HD type of shotgun course or is it for trap/skeet/hunting? ...nevermind, I found the 2009 course descriptions. It looks like a general primer for shotguns, but please correct me if I am wrong.

I am going to try and get my wife to come out this Saturday if there are still spots available.

Btw, is the range EBR friendly? I have heard mixed reviews on that and would like to bring my ARs to shoot while she does the shotgun course. - Thanks

More of the former then the later. Shotgun I covers stance, malfunction drills, 'patterning,' and basic safety. We use the clubs 870's and often shoot steel on the cowboy range. We also do a round at the skeet range.

The first course starts with the basics but is a good lead in for the more advanced courses.

This is Awesome. Would I be able to have my wife and daughter both do these courses?

Depends on the age of your daughter, but if you feel she is old enough to learn, then i'd say yes to both. When friends of mine have come to take the course, its not uncommon for the spouse to spend some time on the rifle/pistol range during the course.

Its all good fun.

Thanks!!!

Sounds like fun! I want to play too!! lol

She is interested, but is a little apprehensive of the "shotgun recoil" so a little coaxing may be in order.

Can we just show up or do we need to pre-register?

We use a really 'light' load since its for teaching and because were on the cowboy range (steel). I don't think recoil is going to be an issue for them. No need to pre-register.

doh. Age isn't an issue then. Not to keen on pre-teens unless a parent hovers next to the student, but your daughter is an adult.

Weather ought to be excellent Saturday. Hope to see all of you there.

Well crude, got both of them together and they are into going but cannot make any of the dates due to other commitments. If they become free I will bring them.

May 15, 2010 - Sat. 1:00 pm, Women’s Pistol II

Smaller class for Pistol 2.

Repeat of basic safety rules via RSO and Head Instructor.

End of class discussion. Using blue gun to demonstrate various holsters required for next class. Pistol 3 (Taught this June).

Hope to see you out there next time.

Sep. 18, 2010 - Sat. 1:00 pm, Mixed Pistol III*

$10.00 for anyone who have completed the Pistol II class, and passed the shooting test, or people who have had similar shooting experience (P.O.S.T., formal shooting school, etc). This class picks up where the Pistol II class left off. You MUST bring your own pistol, and holster on a sturdy belt (dummy ammunition would be nice, but is not required). Learn how to draw a pistol from a holster. We will be dry practicing the 5 point draw stroke. Learn how to perform a tactical reload, a speed reload, and malfunction clearance drills.

What to get and where to get it from? My personal preference is Kydex (plastic) verses leather, but YMMV.

1. Get a good sturdy leather belt (most "dress" belts and woven belts are useless), OR a purpose made gun belt (Wilderness, Blackhawk, or similar). Make sure it will fit your pants loops!

2. Get one holster that mounts on your firing side, and carries you gun muzzle down. Inside the waist band, outside the waist band, pancake, OR paddle (your preference). Make sure it has the same size holes as your belt above. Do NOT get shoulder holsters, ankle holsters, cross draw holsters, small of back holsters, fanny pack holsters, or purse holsters.

3. Get at least one extra magazine and the associated magazine carriers, for your gun, more = better. Make sure your magazine carriers have the same size holes as your belt above.

4. Try to get 3-4 rounds of dummy/practice ammunition (snap caps). Helpful, but not necessary.

The places that have worked for me in the past:

1. Bladetech - http://www.blade-tech.com/home.php one of my favorites is the “dropped and offset” holster” http://www.blade-tech.com/Standard-Holsters-c-338.html

2. Blackhawk - http://www.blackhawk.com/ one of my favorites is their “Serpa” line and their belts.

3. Galco - http://www.usgalco.com/ leather

4. Fobus - http://www.fobusholster.com/ builds pretty good affordable stuff

5. Wilderness - http://www.thewilderness.com/ gun belts.

6. Surefire - http://www.surefire.com/ flashlights and weapon lights.

You can get equipment from the manufacturers or from many – many vendors on the web. Some of my favorites are:

http://www.botachtactical.com/

http://www.lapolicegear.com/

http://www.dillonprecision.com/ - crisis resolution training magazines

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/

http://www.sportsmansguide.com

http://www.outdoormarksman.com

http://www.opsgear.com

Hope to see you there. Train often. Be safe.

Oct. 16, 2010 - Sat. 1:00 pm, Ladies Empty Hand / Unarmed Defense I

Bump for Saturday.
"NC-17. No children under 17 years of age because this is serious stuff. FREE for women who have little or no experience with self defense / martial arts. Learn Reality-Based Martial Arts Techniques That Will Save Your Life. Like everything we do our training is based on real-world techniques of self defense and personal safety. Training that you can use in your everyday life. While some martial arts programs teach techniques that would rarely be encountered or used in real life situations, our martial arts program is street-wise and completely reality based. Our program is based on successfully integrating numerous styles of martial arts into one cohesive system. This system has proven very successful in defending oneself against single and multiple attackers, both armed and unarmed. Yes, it will be physical and no, you do not have to do anything you do not feel comfortable doing. Wear something you do not mind getting dirty – sweats and a t-shirt are favorites.

There’s been some confusion as to whether or not this class is open to men. This class is NOT open to men. "

Dec. 18, 2010 - Sat. 1:00 pm, Top Secret Ninja Training

The Manteca Sportsmen’s Club in Manteca, CA, offers a class for women who have completed the Pistol I class, or who have had similar shooting experience (call or email for information). This class will introduce the very basics of tactics. How to clear corners (cut the pie) and open doorways. How to deal with a subject you do not want in you house, but do not necessarily want to shoot.

We will be using AirSoft pistols. The club has a couple we can have students use. If you have an AirSoft gun you would like to try (we prefer pistols, but can accommodate rifles and shotguns) bring it and ammunition for it. This is AIRSOFT only! No BB guns and certainly no gunpowder guns.

As usual, from noon to 1:00, we will be practicing Tim Larkin's Target Focused Training (TFT) as taught in the Empty Hand / Unarmed Defense Class in October. If you attended the class and would like to practice, or if you are interested and would just like to watch, come one hour early (noon).

Lol - I know you mean that in jest but that gets asked a lot. We would love to offer more classes for everyone. Heck id love to have IDPA as a venue here as well (dreaming). Actually we do offer the basic pistol series for both genders once a year but generally there's more need for woman's classes. An FNRA grant supplies the ammo for those classes.

We would love to offer more advanced classes. We already have enough instructors trained to teach them. Alas the ladies classes (venue) only has 2 instructors committed for each month and a slew of assistants who haven't the time to commit. Since our lead instructor is only available to teach 1 class per month were limited for the time being.

In the future we might do more advanced classes for those with Front Sight, Gunsite, or similar training but we'd probably just limit those classes within the club (members only) unless we can expand the number of committed volunteers to teach the basic classes. membership has its privileges!

What can I say - Venues take volunteers. Wish we could do more. Lots of venues (lots of programs) to be run at the Manteca Sportsmen; we do what we can.

Pistol III Class.
$10.00 for women who have completed the Pistol II class, and passed the shooting test, or women who have had similar shooting experience (P.O.S.T., formal shooting school, etc). This class picks up where the Pistol II class left off. You MUST bring your own pistol, ammunition, and holster on a sturdy belt (dummy ammunition would be nice, but is not required). Learn how to draw a pistol from a holster. We will be dry practicing the 5 point draw stroke. Learn how to perform a tactical reload, a speed reload, and malfunction clearance drills.

Bump for class Wednesday. Rain or shine. Classwork/lecture is inside. Pistol range is covered. If you missed the first class but have some experience, you're welcome and take the class. $10/person and open for both men and women.

June 8, 2011 - Wed. 5:00 pm, Mixed Pistol II**

PS - We practice unarmed defense 1 hour before class begins. While it is a combination of different things, we draw heavily from Target Focus Training.
