Is it legal to own 50 GI 1911 in California??

Yes. As long as it is on the approved list of handguns, you can go purchase one. If it is not on the "safe list" then you would have to acquire it either as a gift from an out of state family member or from a PPT.

The only .50 caliber that is banned in CA is .50 BMG.

I've seen these at a local shop, so I'm assuming they are probably on the approved list. Hope your pocket book is huge though... the price tag was $2899... plus the ammo is crazy expensive

Only .50BMG rifles are banned. .50BMG handguns and crew-served type weapons (not intended to be fired from the shoulder) like the Ma Deuce are perfectly legal in CA.

Default 50s on CA list

I ran a search on caliber on the CA approved list, and saw two .50 caliber guns - both the S&W .50 caliber revolver - in 6.5 inch and 8-3/8 inch barrel lengths. I didn't see any other .50s.

There is a .50 GI conversion kit for the Glock.

It's legal and they're at Martin Retting (at least when I was last paying attention to 1911's).
