Default Hogue re-checkered grips for Sig P220: QUESTION

Hello everyone!

I wanted to know if know if the hogue re-checkered factiry grips thicker than the factory slim grips? I'm looking for something a little thicker that still preserves the factory look. Thanks!

I think the Hogue re-checkered grips must be thicker than the factory thin grips. They are are slightly, but noticeably thinner than the original grips.

If the original grips fit pretty well, or feel a little large, then the re-checkered grips should be just right.

The Hogue re-checkered grips have excellent small checkering and since they are machined, as opposed to molded, they provide a very secure grip.

I called Hogue and asked if the Slim grips could be checkered and the answer was no. In our discussion, the rep told me that the checkered standard grips didn't reduce the size really, it only checkered the inside portion. Obviously this removes material, but it won't make the grip physically any thinner because of the outer 'ring' of plastic.

So the answer is no, they won't be any thicker, if anything at all, they will be thinner. They are factory grips that are checkered and not a new grip that is physically bigger to allow for the checkering.

Before I ordered the grips the Hogue rep told me the same thing. But I was pleasantly surprised to discover after mounting them that they are noticeably thinner than the original grips.

The amount of material removed from the sides and the backstrap definitely give the grips a slimmer feel.

So they MAY be slightly thinner than the standard grips but they are deffinetly thicker than the SLIM grips....am I correct? If that's the case, I will place m order tonight since I'm looking to beef up the feel of my thin grips.

I have tried all three types of grips -- standard, standard with Hogue's re-checkering, and slim -- and strongly prefer the standard with Hogue's re-checkering.

I'm about to start the 10 day wait on a 220 combat and much prefer the black grips. Should I spring for the checkered grips or slim grips? Or should I see how I like the factory ones first? Are the factory grips on the combat slim or standard?

My P220 Combat came with the FDE slim grips. I have both styles of grips and highly prefer the slims. I swapped out the grips when I sent in my originals to Lakota to get the multicam water transfer treatment.

Top is the Combat grips on my regular P220. Bottom is the stock grips with the multicam transfer on a Combat.
