Beretta ARX-160

From Wikipedia:

"The Beretta ARX-160 is an assault rifle currently undergoing trials for the Italian armed forces as part of their 'Soldato Futuro' ('Future Soldier' in english) programme."

I've got parts of a real Beretta battle rifle, a garand.

I'll probably build it on a Springfield receiver but a lot of it is Italian.

That Beretta is not a battle rifle, it's a poodle shooter.

M1 Garand, K98, HK G3, FN FAL, M14, etc. are battle rifles.

Beretta BM-59 is a battle rifle.
It was basically Beretta's version of the M14 (a M1 Garand in 7.62x51 that used detachable magazines).

Too much going on but we'll see. If it becomes adopted then everyone MUST have it. We all know how it goes. The first pic doesn't look that bad, the second one with all the goodies, I'm not digging those sights and other things on it.

I was referring to the OP's "battle rifle", not the Guido Garand, M1 or BM59.

Looks no different than every other plastic battle rifle coming out these days:

HK G36
FN SCAR
Magpul/Bushmaster/Remington Masada/ACR/MCR/whatever it's called this week.

BTW a fantastic rifle (along with the BM 62 ) and had the strongest magazines of any 308 I've ever seen... Had one -- went with teh ban -- should have registered it.

I'm not familar with the new one you linked to, but I've had experience the AR70 in civilian and NFA configuration.

Great piece, no liners in the handguard. They get hot real fast.

Yes! The M16/AR15 and varmint guns in general have been referred to as poodle shooters for decades. I take it that you're <25 years old? Let me guess, never heard of Jeff Cooper either.

A "battle rifle" does not fire a round designed for prairie dogs.

tell that to NATO, the US military and general Kalasnikov(AK74 was a 5mm round too).

Jeff Cooper is one of those guys that thinks nothing has progressed in the last 100 years. well they were not doing brain sugury 100 years ago.

and since you want to pull the age card out for some retarded reason, no I am not 25 years old.
for the record im 19.

That's assuming:

1.) It can be imported into the US AT ALL.
2.) They even make a semi-auto version

(sigh) Ok, if you look at the post, he said that he thought you were <25, which means less than 25. 19<25, so he pretty much called it. He wasn't being retarded, merely pointing out that you had been raised in the time after the 5.56 and 9mm became our official calibers. So your views on these cartridges are likely to be significantly different than older shooters.

As for Kalishnikov, if you have read any of his interviews or watched any of them translated into English, you would know that he does NOT like the 5.45, and thinks that they should have stuck with the 7.62 round instead.

Jeff Cooper is dead, so he doesn't really think anything currently. But many of his ideas were the basis for modern firearms thinking, so he had to have gotten something right. As for the comments on people not changing their thinking in 100 years, well, you are 19. That is only to be expected. Despite what you see in movies and on TV, the 5.56 round is not the ideal battle cartridge. That is why we still use the 7.62x51 for our larger machineguns and sniper rifles. It is also why so many new small arms cartridges are coming out. Because the 5.56, while useful, is inconsistant in terms of combat lethality. Especially at longer ranges, short range, and with shorter barreled weapons. So, next time, before you get your panties in a wad, try to understand what people are trying to tell you. Don't take it as in insult to you, or your favorite weapons system without getting more details.

-Mb

And for the record, I really do like the 5.56. I even own an AR.

But, that still doesn't change the fact that my AR is a poodle shooter and not a battle rifle.

Don't get me wrong, I like them too. And I have no problem using them for self defense. But they are not battle rifles. Nor is it the end-all, be-all assault rifle cartridge.
