Talking .450 Bushmaster uppers on sale at Bushmaster.com

I found these tonight $200 off:

New .450 Bushmaster Caliber. 20" or 16" w. Izzy Brake. Includes 5 Rd. Magazine. These uppers will mount right on your mil. spec. Lower. With a velocity of 2200 FPS, the Hornady 250 Gr. SST/FT bullet in the .450 Bushmaster "Thumper" is designed for all large North American game. Though not a long distance cartridge, accuracy has proved to be exceptional out to 200 yards with felt recoil similar to a 20 ga. shotgun. Tubular aluminum forends allow the barrel to free float from the nut forward, chrome lining in both bore and chamber makes for long barrel life and easy cleaning.

Options: 20" Barrel or 16" Barrel

MSRP: $795.00, Sale Price $590.00

Purple, they've been on sale for about a month now. I think the sale ends this month. I was SOOOOO close to ordering the 16" barrel it's not even funny. In the end, the cost of ammo turned me away. Sweet deal though; having a completed big bore AR for under $1K.

This'll be my third build. I'm glad I found out before the end of the month. I got the 16"

You will be very happy with your Thumper. It is a great round and a good upper.

Razors vs. blades issue.

They should be giving away the upper given the price of the ammo.

If this was available at the time I bought my .50 Beowulf upper for $1200 (it came with DD Omega rails and some ammo but still it wasn't cheap), I would have jumped on it. .450 Bushmaster ammo/brass couldn't possibly be harder to find than .50 Beowulf.

price of ammo isn't that bad, cheaper than dirt has is for sale for 25 bucks, the 200 you would have saved on the sale could have bought you 8-9 boxes. The recoil is alot heavier than expected, for some reason my 20" upper came with a CAR lenght gas system, it feels like a 12ga slug or a 270. If you look close at the first pic, you'll notice that there is no gas tube connected to the gas block.

I just got an E-mail from Bushmaster that mine is 5-8 weeks away. In the mean time I've converted one of my Pmags to handle .450BM.

The blue single-stack follower that Bushmaster uses on their 5-rd magazines is available from Bushmaster and Fulton Armory. The front corners of that blue follower need to be trimmed from a 90 degree to about 40 degrees to match the contour of the Pmag. It took me about 5 minutes of trial and error with my Dremel, but you could use a file too. The PMag has an internal rib running down the front of the mag. With a double-stack follower the tip of the bullets end up on either side of this rib. With the single-stack follower this rib must be removed. I used a 3/8" wood chisel to remove this rib. With the blue follower sitting on top of the normal follower this allowed 11-rds to fit. I used a piece of 3/8" round dowell 1.3" long attached to the bottom of the follower (as in the 10/30 thread) as a block. 1.3" still allows the dust cover to fit.

Their sale isn't bad at all. I just ordered the complete A3 Gas Piston upper for 599.99. I almost got the basic A2 upper but I figured for the price I might as well upgrade. I should have my upper on New Years Eve!!! Maybe I'll order the 450 upper as well.

similar preformance, you wont see a huge change until you get the rounds out to their max range the 450bm will travel a little farther (25-50yrds) but does not retain as much energy at that range compaired to the .458sc and the .50bw. But reguardless anyting within 200yrds wont be moving/breathing after the first shot.

Actually factory ballistics for 300gr Speer Gold Dot for a .50 Beowulf at 300 yards is 632ftlbs and drops 55 inches, while a 300gr TTSX .458 Socom @ 1820fps has energy of 837ftlbs and drops 48 inches.

Both are less ft/lbs and drop than the factory 450BM in 250gr FTX which generates 893ftlbs but drops only 24.5" at 300 yards.

That performance + reloading component availability + major factory support is why I bought that big bore upper and why I hate myself for selling it
