Default Type 24 or Chiang Kai Shek Rifle rare?

Hey guys,

My buddy just recently found out about these old rifle that connect with his heritage. He just has to find one. I've been looking around and they seem to be few and far in between. When they are around they look like a inexpensive buy. Does anyone have any leads of these? I've scoured the net only to find bits and pieces of info around. Also, if anyone knows any obscure history or anything about the marking, I would love to hear anything anyone knows about it~ Thanks in Advance guys!

I heard they go buy:
Chiang Kai Shek Rifle
Zhongzheng Rifle
Hanyang Rifle
Type 24
Vz 24

They can be found on Gunbroker often. Not in great shape, though. There's one for sale here in the For Sale section. I've seen lots of different shapes and sizes of them. Seems like most of the info is in the Mauser book. The pricing for most of the one's I've seen falls between $85-150-ish. There's been a guy trying to sell his "rare" one on gunbroker for $1k for the past couple months and he's definitely off his rocker.

Edit-Just in case he may be looking for something to have, and not necessarily shoot, there's about 3 or 4 for sale by one guy on gunboards right now as well.

Before the Internet became the sole source of all knowledge, people used to record information in primitive devices known as books.

Two of these obsolete devices,

and

have nicely illustrated sections dealing with Chinese Mausers. Both are highly recommended.

before anyone says it, that's not a swastika, it's the symbol that represents the dharma which has a host of meanings I probably don't have enough room for.

Here is a better photo of the dharma mark Spiggy is referring to. If it were a swastika the arms would be going the other way around.

there's one in the manufacture seal as well

Traditionally it was made to face the right, I have no idea why it was changed to a left facing wheel.

The swastika is an ancient symbol used by Hindus, Buddhists, and others long before the Nazi party was created.

I collected several. Chiang kai-shek and ZhongZheng mean the same as shown in the picture. The swastika is the symbol of #21 arsenal, originally located in Nanjing (or Nanking where Japanese army raped and killed about 300K in late 1937).

The standard mauser is the version CKS duplicates after.

China also bought a lot of VZ24 from Czech in 1937 to 1939 when the war broke off.

Most rifles from China, especially with the chinese characters on the wood stock are in poor shape. The stamp on stock with Chinese means they were used by the civilian militia; and very much abused with no maintenance.

One can still find them, but very difficult to find any in good condition.
Honestly, I dare not shoot the CKS rifle I collected. I did shoot the VZ24 and the standard mauser; somehow they are in much better shape and without the stamp on stock.

ps: I don't know why Hitler chose the swastika and gave this symbol such a mis-perception. I've seen such symbol in an artifact about 3000 or 4000 years ago in a special exhibit in the Asian Art museum in SF few years back! In Taiwan, I've seen often such symbols (going both righ and left) decorating the temples!

It's a long topic. When Hitler moved the German Worker's Party to become the identity of the National Socialist party of most familiarity, he designed also the motif and party identity. It goes back to a melding of ideology from a philosophy he learned of and was believed in by certain "philosophers" of the time learning from India and other asian "understandings", of the aryan identity being the ultimate definition of mankind and that the swatiska's definition for them representing the center of a life force. It is a somewhat pagan and occult world of claimed lineages and the "masters" of the world.

Now let me swing this big long back to the topic of Chiang Kai Shek. Chiang Kai Shek had asked, like many did, for military consulting (for money) help from Germany as he was building his large army. The Prussian types were historically always recognized as very good at military order, tactics, and discipline at the time. So... it was witnessed at the time German Wermacht and Nazi party officals in China at the time training Chinese Nationalist officers and soldiers. So how's that for full circle?

Full Circle is when KMT soldiers started wearing snappy German uniforms!
