Default Got the news today everyone dreads this time of year.. :(

My wife called me today at lunch and informed me that the heartless company she works for is going to lay her off along with several other employees until after the first of the year because they have to cut payroll by 50K... =(....We have just barely been making it up until now so this really puts us up against the wall. She was the office manager for a large company that tests dvds and video games for the studios to ensure there are no errors before they press up millions of copies. She is great on the phones and better than me on the computer. She knows all of the windows business software like QB, office, excel, etc... She has worked for Diest Safety, the company that makes safety equipment for monster trucks and other race applications. She has also worked for an internet optimization company as and executive assistant and office manager and also a computer repair and networking company as an office manager / secretary. If anyone needs an assistant, secretary or office manager please let me know and i can have her send you her resume. She also has some retail experience and worked at Marie Calendars when she was young. =) She is looking for either something to fill in the next month or two or just a better place to work period. Who knows maybe this is a blessing in disguise, i would really love to see her join a good company that values its employees and is in the habit of rewarding their employees for their hard work instead of taking advantage of them. Thanks in advance for any help. We are located in Burbank so the job has to be in the San Fernando Valley area.

A blessing in disguise is how I approach things. Sometimes, when we think we have the most control of our lives, an outside force makes us lose our grip.

Your situation is especially tough since the holidays are approaching. You and her may wonder how anyone can be happy at a time like this. Just gotta trust that a better opportunity is right around the corner. Presents and gifts? Forget about all that. People understand when times are tough. If not, they better!

You got a lot of work to do to keep her on a positive note. Hate to mention it, but suicides are high during the holiday season and combine that with someone who lost their job...no bueno.

It'll work out in the end....it always does.

I'm sorry to hear about the layoff

But like you say, sometimes it may be a blessing in disguise. With that said, I do not have any advice for finding a job and etc... but, I can offer advice on how to get into nursing schools.

If she wants to pursue a career in nursing, then feel free to send me a PM and I would be happy to assist in the best way possible.

Thanks for the kind words and advice guys. I dont think she could do the nursing thing, the sight of large ammounts of blood makes her pass out most of the time. We have already adjusted our lifestyle accordingly and the toys are up for sale. If anyone wants a clean Honda CR500 dirtbike let me know it is listed in the non-firearms related sale forum. As well as my 1969 L88 427ci Big Block Chevy powered 21" Biesemeyer V Drive ski boat. As for her she is really good with accounting both receivable and payable. Thats what she enjoys doing and is good at, she is really a jack of all trades in the office setting. Thanks again guys!

Good luck! It is a crummy time to have to be out of work! Try to be fair to the company, taxes are going up and sacrifices are having to be made. It sucks for everyone involved. I know, my husband owns a business, so I can see both sides... Now, this isn't a "fun" option, but, is there ANY business like Wal Mart, a grocery store, fast food, etc hiring near you? I know the pay is drastically lower but it's better than nothing... Good luck and I hope for the best for you guys!

I saw this at the SAIC web page when I did my weekly scan. It's in El Segundo but I don't know if that's anywhere near you. SAIC is a big govt contractor and they hire well qualified people to maintain the contracts.

Best wishes to you and your wife. It's happened to me several times, it always strikes fear into my heart, and then I realize, "I'm still here, you bastards."

SAIC has its ups and downs.

Edison, if still hiring, would be good.
