Default Federal XM193-Various Letter Designations?

So, I am looking at getting some Federal XM193 ammo in 5.56 but am seeing several various letter designations after the XM193 (XM193AF, XM193C, XM193CBP, XM193ABCDWXYZ...okay, I made that last one up).

I also noticed that most are in a "Brown" box and some are in a "Black" box marked American Eagle. I have some here at home marked American Eagle in a red box and they are .223.

Is there a difference? I also noticed that the one's with the Stripper Clips are a little cheaper...is there a reason why?

Default XM-193

It's all the same just different packaging. But I would try to stay away from the XM193BK it seems to have more dents and crushed necks. All of the other XM193 is very good ammo.

I stay away from anything loose packed. Buy the ammo in boxes. I use to buy 1000 rounds in 30rd cartons on strippers in bandoliers for just over $200. The good ol days

XM193= 5.56, 20 round brown box, 500rnds per case.

XM193BK= 5.56, Loose Bulk, 1000 rnds per case. Not as pretty as the boxed stuff where some rounds may have small dents but still goes boom.

XM193A and XM193AF= 5.56, rounds packed in ten round stripper clips, 900 per case.

XM193C= 5.56 commercial package, American Eagle Tactical "Black Box," 20 round box.

XM193CBP= 5.56, commercial package, American Eagle Tactical "Black Box", Loose rounds in 200 round bulk (value) pack.

The letters usually designate the packaging. Some like the brown box stuff more that the black box AE. Look at the reviews and shoot what your rifle likes. Hope that helps.

Also From online vendor..
"Federal announces that packaging for XM193 is now done in Anoka, so a new part number (XM193F) was needed for FET purposes. THIS IS THE SAME ammo as XM193, and XM193C and apparently replaces both of these items."

Thanks for the replies. They say the "Stripper Clips" are easier to load your magazines. I have PMAGS...will it be easier to load my mags or more of a pain because I have to pull the rounds off of the stripper clips and load them one at a time?

Stripper clips work on PMAGs just need the spoon piece. I store all my blasting ammo on stripper clips. The spoon piece fits over the PMAG put the loaded stripper clip into the spoon and push down on the top round.

I know that I am resurrecting a 5-year dead thread, but the "What's the difference between various XM193" question comes up a lot on the internet, and most often it is answered incorrectly with false rumors like, "It's overruns and rejects!" And that kind of misinformation drives me crazy.

There are also a lot of links to a Federal Ammunition web page that is now just a dead link. So I dug up the last snapshot of that page on The Wayback Machine, and here it is.

And here is an image snapshot of that page I saved:
