Default French MAS-36

I have this and another that's still wrapped in costomoline with it's french arsenal paperwork, someday I'll get around to shooting them.

I happened to be watching "We Were Soldiers" and noted the use of of what appears to be this type rifle by the French troops when ambushed by the Vietmanese troops.

Alright, here comes the mandatory joke. It's clearly unfired, does it also have drop marks? Mine didn't, so I had to drop it in order to make it look authentic.

I was with some friends on afternoon when it came in, I opened it and said "eh check it out, a French rifle", I handed it to one of the guys and he was like "I don't want this, here you take it" and hands it off to the next guy, was comical, fact the French joke came up too that day.

What's really cool about these rifles is the built in white flag holder that they installed right under the barrel. Just pull it out, turn it around, stick it back in, put a white cloth on the end and wave the rifle in the air.

Seriously, French rifles are pretty cool.

That MAS 36 is a neat little carbine. If I could get one re-chambered in 8mm, .30-06, or 7.62x54r at a low price I would definitely have one. Or two.

The 7.5 is very close to .308 performance.

I bought a MAS 49/56 off a chap who was doing his own reloading, he said he was using the .308 bullets as they were easier to obtain.

Anyone remember the gunsmith that fixes the century MAS .308 conversion? Can't remember his name or if he's still in business?
