Default What will the Glock 40 be? (G40)

It started with the 17, the selective fire 18, and then smaller sized 19 all in 9mm. Then came the 20 in a full sized package chambered for 15 rds of 10mm. The 21 followed, same size, but fired the .45ACP. The 22 became the pistol that grew to truly dominate law enforcement sales as issued duty guns - the full size .40S&W. The 22 was followed immediatley by the 23. Chambered in the same cartridge as the 22, the 23 was shunk down in size, much like the glock 19. The Glock 24 (Details of which I am a bit fuzzy on) brought out the .40S&W cartrige in a full size fame, but long slide version. Neato! Not sure how often one sees those around, but let's keep going.

The G25 brought us a gun the same size as the 19 and 23, but the G25 fires that old reliable - the .380. Not sure how often we in the states see this one, then it was back to business of the some slightly larger loads, and out came out (in quick sucession) the G26 - 9MM, G27-.40S&W Both in the new "subcompact category" that were light, super easy to conceal, still chambered major calibers, and well stll glocks. The ones known as the "baby glocks" today. Oh wait, there was also a subcompact baby gun that came right after. It was the G28, and it shot, you guessed it .380.

Moving on, glock made two more "sub compacts" though both of these are immediately a little larger than their "baby glock" counterparts. The G29 brought us a tiny gun chambered in tough guy 10mm, and the G30 brought us the American Classic .45 in a smaller package.

Then came the .357SIG. Glock immediately made the full sized G31, the Compact G32, and then Sub-compact G33(oh look, another baby glock) All chambered in the .357SIG caliber. The .357 SIG round is certainly innovative, and oft times polarizing, so I'll leave it here with the fact that many departments have moved to, and love the performance they get out of the .357SIG.

Our next Jaunt takes us to the long side end of things, the G34, a 9mm on a full frame with a long slide, and the G35 the full frame/ long slide combo chambered in a .40S&W. The goal with these two was to have decent out of the box "competition" level guns.

The G36 was kind of a 180 turn from there, as glock introduced their first subcompat SLIMLINE pistol. G36 is a single stack, 6+1 in .45ACP. Possibly a chance for glock to experiment with a not so bulky gun? Who knows. To this day, it remain the Manufacture's only SLIMLINE singe stack pisol.

Couldn't let Glock get away without their own cartridge though, so we got teh .45GAP - Glock Automatic Pistol. From what I understand, a shorter version of the .45acp with roughly the same power. Fine. Glock immediately chambered a full sized gun for it, the G37. A mid sized gun, the G38, and another baby glock, the G39.

That brings us to the end of the line for glock models. Sure, there are the SF models, and some even have C for compensator, but I've decided to leave those as options or accessories. I want to know what the new MODEL will be!

Obviously the G40 can't be CHAMBERED in .40 can it? Won't that just confuse rap songs and the people trying to correct those rap songs everywhere?

Might glock extend their long slide offerings to the .45 or 10mm? Somehow I doubt it.

Will they introduce another slimline version in ANY caliber just to keep the .45acp G36 not so lonely?

Will they make a .22LR pistol? could it be long barrel hunting 10mm? What about the G40 being some kind of select fire, military only version like what the 18 was?

What if they made the .50GI a stock offering?

What do YOU think THEY will introduce as the G40?

What would YOU introduce if it was YOUR DECISION?

Lot of things to guess. New size? New chambering? Both?

I'd like a proposed G40 to be chambered in .38 Super.

They can still chamber it in 40 S&W, using the Glock 23's slide dimension and frame, but chopping the grip ala G27 style. It will make a not very snappy gun for CCW.

Winner!

Glock 22 = full-size .40S&W
Glock 40 = full-size .22LR (made in the USA, in order to bypass the handgun point system for importation)

I remember reading somewhere that Glock was going to skip the number 40 because of the confusion it would create with .40 caliber guns, but that was probably just speculation.

G26 slide length with G19 grip/frame size! G41 will be G27 slide length with G23 grip/frame size!! And so forth.

Well at least I think its a cool idea.

Edit, got things mixed up.

Hold it, you're really confusing me. If a homeboy gets a Glock 40 and it's not in .40 caliber, then he might buy the wrong ammunition. Imagine the scene at the gun store, " Yo man, I gots a glock fortay, n I needs some fortay ammo"

Think about the children!

I want a super slim line of glocks. I want a single stack frame that is no thicker than .90 and I want it in all cals from 380acp up to 45acp.

I don't see them making a .22LR. .22 pistols are two damned finicky to possibly keep up with their reputation of "always working" so why screw with that by making a rimfire gun? Don't get me wrong, I think it would be cool - I just seriously doubt it will happen.

I'd like to see them make the G40 a small, single stack, 10mm - like the G36.

The 26/27 slide size on 19/23 frames is a good one too - but that might be a little too narrow a focus.

When did glock intro the G39?

I'm thinking the Glock 40 would round out the .380 cartridge in a fullsize.

Another idea would be to follow sig in the p250 and allow grip size and caliber changes through small part swaps.

....But I think Bug-Splat's idea of a full lineup of slim frame single stacks was the best idea so far, I might get a glock again if they did this. I would add that these should be full size frames with min 10 round cap for all cals.

Well whatever it is, I hope that Austria's design interests mirror our own. A Glock employee told me recently that the company suffers from a "not made here" mentality. If the idea doesn't originate in Austria, the product will never be developed.

Personally, I would love to see a slimline in .40 or 9mm, or a .22 conversion kit.

that sounds good.

I would like to see it having 7-8 round capacity from the factory.

a gun the size of the G19 with 9 rounds of 10mm just might be the ultimate SHTF gun.

I think I'd sell my G20 for a G19 sized gun with 10 rounds of 10mm...
