Default New to AKs - Turner's IONIC CASAR?

I've been thinking about adding another 7.62x39 to go with the pair of SKSs I have. So I'm thinking Saiga or an AK type.

This week Turner's has what I think is an AK clone with the PG removed and a 10-rnd magazine.

Does anybody know if this particular rifle can have a PG added back onto it?

Of course I'd then need a BB setup.

Thanks.

An alternative to this, already configured the way you would need, for less $:

Cool. I'll keep an eye out and see if they get them back in stock.

The first choice is currently in stock. I have one that I bought for my wife. It's an average AK but without the issues that the non-certified WASRs may have. Henderson gets an A+ for service.

SWEET! I guess I clicked the lower link then go "lost" on their site

I'm going to shoot them an email and see if they already have a local FFL's info on file so we can get moving. Otherwise I'll have to take that step I guess...

Sorry but I'm very new to AKs. What is an "indent?"

The one they shipped to us is a WASR 10/63 built from demilled military rifles. Ours with the JP mag lock and 10/30 mag:

As of 2008, there are GP WASR-10/63 rifles which are being made from demilled military rifles. Look for a triangle with arrow (some only have a triangle) on the front trunnion. Quality is much better with these

My recommendation:
Buy this: http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.ph...cat=353&page=1 and have it shipped to your local FFL via a middleman FFL.

The indent is to stabilize the magazine to prevent wobble. Visible on the Saiga in the post above and on my pimped Draco pistol. The WASRs do not have this feature.

Holly cow, I've gone from driving 3 miles to Turners to needing a local FFL and a middleman FFL.

I woudl look and see if the difference in shipping from FFL to FFL tax cali mod etc will bring the price close to what Turners is asking. if the price is close or even slightly higher I would go for the Henderson AK if the price is ridiculously high then get the Turners AK

The Turners rifle is already Cali compliant. No need for a middleman FFL.

why do you have to ship it to a middleman FFL?

Is it not CA legal with that 5rd magazine (I'm assuming because no bullet button)?

I suppose he meant that Henderson will ship directly to CA and you do not need a middleman FFL.

Probably because Kvar will not ship to CA so you have to find a friendly middleman FFL.

yeah but I guess I'm saying if the price of the Turners AK is about the same as having a Henderson AK and FFL fees and they pretty much equal out I would get the henderson before the Turners one.
If the price is a lot more than the Turners rifle get the turners one then.

If you are looking for a cheap (relatively) AK, Ammo Bros had the WASR AK for $499 then I was there last week. Standard AK with the pg removed.

I applaud Turners for getting into the AK business. This can only be seen as more good news for us.

If I was in your shoes and looking to buy an AK, I'd go with the Henderson Defense guns. They are inspecting the guns before sending to you and including the Solar Tactical lock too. All you need to do is block the mags down to 10/30's or pick up a 10 rounder and you are set. I already have a Romy AK, so I just ordered the Yugo underfolder from HD and had it sent to my favorite FFL, Independent Armamant Co. As long as you know a FFL to receive the gun, I think HD is the best option. Cost will be low, you get a certified rifle, and you get to support a vendor and a FFL who support our cause.

The Turners guns would be the least hassle. And you'd be encouraging them to bring in more cool stuff.

The Arsenal AKs just seem like too much work for me (although at least now their prices are more realistic). I don't want the headaches of a middleman FFL. The beauty of the Arsenal is having something new and flawless but the Henderson certified guns take away my worries of getting a lemon.

Happy shopping!

I'd say "mostly US made". They are still using the foreign rear sight block, the gas block, and front sight. There are US made rear fixed stock trunnions, but I don't know if they're using it. The front trunnion is all Romanian though.

You sure that is still the case? Their site clearly says that all their AKs are made in the US.

I.O. Inc. has imported its products from overseas for a long time. When these products were received, many times we found the quality to be substandard. For example, if we imported 1000 firearms, only 700 were able to pass I.O. Inc. quality control standards. Basically, 300 rifles would have to be scrapped. With this experience, I.O. Inc. decided to manufacture its products right here in the United States. I.O. Inc. (Inter Ordnance) has invested heavily in tooling and equipment for the last two years. Now, all of our AK, STG (WIEGER) and SSG rifles are proudly made in the U. S.

I can take a Romanian AK parts kit, build it on a US receiver, throw in some US parts and I too can say it's made in the US. That can mean anything...."US made", "made in the US".

You'll need to lock a 10 rounder in place if you want to add a pistol grip.

I just received my ioinc Ak yesterday from Turners. But a couple days before i went to ammo bros to pick up some ammo. And I saw the Saiga for $469! I spent $529 at Turners and could have saved approx. $60. I haven't had time yet to shoot my ak... but my question is... was it worth it?

I got my Saiga for $425 and I think it's a better deal that the Turner's AK because I can actually grip the Saiga comfortably. I dont understand how you're supposed to effectively fire the IONIC AK without a grip..

I guess you can put a bullet button on it, but I'd rather have real detachable mags than have to mess around with a BB.

Thumbs up

The Saiga wont use stock AK mags. You need to do a conversion on the Saiga and it aint cheap.
I think the Casar had the hole for the PG already there so you just attatch a pistol grip.
I was looking at the Casars and they look pretty well built, better that the Wasrs ive looked at.

I think your best bet would be a Saiga and turn that into a project to be identical to an AK47

...but im not that mechanically crafty, so I went with a WASR-10 from Henderson

Just got my wasr from Henderson monday, works great and its came with a 10/30 already, just refinished the wood Tuesday and I have a good looking rifle (at least it looks good in my eyes). It also works great, took it out without cleaning right after picking it up and put 80 rounds through it with zero problems!! I would clean it though, I just didn't have time and went straight from my ffl to burro canyon.

The gun cost $440 from Henderson (THEY PAY THE SALES TAX!!!!)
And $70 for the ffl handling and dros at enterprise arms.
so $510 total.
Don't forget to factor the sales tax and dros for the turners AK.

All I did was order the gun, tell them to ship it to my ffl, then two business days later I got a email saying it was at my ffl and I went over there, told them I had a gun shipped to them, they pulled it out and thats that.
