Default GREATER NORTHERN CA ZOMBIE HUNT!

2009 Greater Northern California

Calgunner Zombie Hunt

[

This opportunity is too good too miss!

Saturday Morning, October 31st, 2009

WHO: ALL CALGUNNERS, Families, Friends.
WHAT: Once a year ZOMBIE extravaganza.
WHEN: Halloween Morning
WHERE: Oroville Shooting Range
WHY: To have a good time with like minded 2A supporters and hopefully introduce a few new folks to weapons and Calguns.

Many of us spend all year building zombie killers just to shoot at paper circles every now and then. While many of us have met, there are hardcore calgunners all over the greater Northern Sacramento area who would be better served by meeting up for a shoot.

Here's the tentative plan.
This is about having a good time!
Bring your weapons, and your creative targets.
Plan on staying for the morning, bringing a lunch for eating/hanging out with the gang, leave as needed to make it back home for the kids and trick or treating. Better yet, bring the kids, and have a blast shooting zombies and other crazy things that may make you look strange on a normal day.

We will be doing this big! I'm open to ideas and willing to put forth whatever effort is needed to make it a success. I'll keep a tentative roster going and see what morphs out of the next few days.

Some finer points...
Paper and clay targets allowed per DFG rules.
Everyone should prepare to haul what they bring, maybe a little more, no problems that way.
They have 8 or so benches, I can't remember off hand exactly how many.
The range extends out to 550 yds give or take. It's a decent place to take some midlength shots on zombies.
We wont be able to "reserve" benches, but the earlier we're there, the more benches we will have.
Bring a chair, you'll have no worries!
There is no start time. I expect most will be there sometime between 8-10am. Whatever works best for your schedules.
Keep my Phone# handy in case you have questions or get lost. 530-403-9412 Josh.

Thanks WeekendWarrior/evollep3 for the idea in Panoche! We will do our best to put on a good time here in Oroville as well!

Sounds like fun but I don't know if I could make the 8-10 mile commute

Problem would be, what to bring?

Anyone have any good ideas for exploding targets?

How about a cheap line on pumpkins? Better yet, use your weapon to "carve" your pumpkin.

I'm not privy to where the Oroville range is. I would like to make this shoot. More detail would be great. Coming from Red Bluff with Zombie slaying equipment.

You can get pumpkins at grocery stores for 3 bucks each.
there are good directions on the DFG website.
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/lands/wa/region2/oroville.html

i might make it
though i don't own any specialized zombie slayers
just a couple of deer slayers, mostly bolt guns in 30-06
some semi 22's
and shotguns of course
oh but i do have a lee enfield which was made for war

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me who manages the property? Is it DFG or BLM. If it's BLM, then I can't take my "legally registered" zombie killers on "their" property.

Come down 99, turn left onto hwy 162 and go over the afterbay. Approx 3 miles from the light, turn right onto Larkin road (just after the airport/industrial area). Drive approx 2.5 miles, there will be a small road on your left called Rabe Rd (there is a sign for it on the right just before the turn). Once you reach the top of the hill, the shooting area should be visible.

As far as exploding or reactive targets, please don't forget that you have to haul all your shot up crap out after the fun is over. Fish and Game is looking for any reason to shut the place down.

Not only that, but I believe that exploding targets are not even legal to use here. Best to just shoot targets and make sure that EVERYTHING is taken when we leave.

Ok...for clarification...

Dont bring anything you're not willing to haul away.
They rules state only paper targets and clay targets are allowed at the range.

It's going to be a lot of fun and a great meet for fellow calgunners! Did anyone else get a T-shirt?

I plan on bringing my trailer if I bring target stands. I can haul junk away too if need be. Do they have benches?

I've never been to the Oroville range, the DFG site doesn't have a whole lot of pertinent info on it.

Sounds good. Everyone should prepare to haul what they bring, maybe a little more no problems that way.
