Default Columbia University Libertarians would like to put on a Machine gun Shoot/BBQ

Hi all,

I just got back from a meeting with the Columbia University Libertarians and they were very supportive of putting on a machine gun shoot-n-q to get Columbia/NYU students active on the RKBA.

Essentially it would be a road trip to a nearby free state (unless there is a way to do it in new york or NYC but that is highly doubtful) where we would have the opportunity to teach gun safety to some of the top students at one of the most liberal schools in the country. then there would be some range time under VERY close supervision, followed by a BBQ and we'd probably get some pro RKBA speakers lined up to speak after the dinner.

And in the process there would be GREAT PR opportunities for everyone involved.

We'll probably be needing to find an 07FFL/02SOT or private gun owner/club who is located close to NYC (anywhere within 4 hours or so is workable) and we'll be trying to get together a lot of sponsorship (ammo isn't cheap).

The NYU republicans seemed interested in participating and its possible that some other NYC based school organizations may be looking to get involved.

If anyone here knows of any manufacturers/clubs/organizations who we can approach to try to get this off the ground please let me know.

this will likely be very manpower intensive as it is vital that basic firearms instruction be provided as well as a high level of supervision, so if anyone knows of organizations who may be willing to provide supervision as well as firearms safety instruction that would be ideal.

It is very likely that this will attract a huge amount of backlash from both the university and politicians (Bloomberg et all) but that just means national media attention and more to offer sponsors.

Everything is still just up in the air, but based on the reception the idea received it could be a hugely successful event.... and if the university tries to block it from happening, the first amendment issues and positive press that would result from the institution suppressing free speech could be amazing.

This is also a great way to get some of the more politically active, freedom minded individuals who are active in NYC focused on the RKBA....

So.... suggestions? comments? criticisms?

any input/help would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to do this in Pennsylvania. Talk to the Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association at www.pafoa.org. It's PA's version of Calguns, bigger than here I think, and they have a pretty big Class 3 community. The guys over at SilencerTalk.com would probably help out as well. Both are superbly motivated and will gladly assist. AAC puts on silencer shoots and would probably be very, VERY glad to participate. Their guys are great. Also see if you can get ahold of AR15.com's Ed Avila (the owner and founder), as he is in NYS and...gee, I don't think I need to elaborate on that very much.

Pennsylvania was up in the top of the possibilities, they seem to have some very pro freedom guys out there.

The class 3 aspects of the shoot are mostly intended to maximize the appeal/backlash/media attention... (look at how well the duracoat guys did after bloomberg hassled them)... it COULD be done with just .22 rifles... but I think having machine guns and suppressors would go a long way.

I've got midterms tomorrow, but I'll be making phone calls/emails on Thursday to see what can happen.

Might want to contact Ronnie Barrett, he's been known to voice his displeasure with antis. Would make an interesting speaker with the whole CA fiasco and his voting with his wallet. Maybe he can help out with guns and ammo.

Where in the industry section at ar15.com can you post where it will be read by all the manufacturers?

I don't want to spam all their individual forums.

If I could afford to make a trip out there I would. I'm a Libertarian, 07/02, have machine guns, suppressors, AOWs, and can bring a bit of ammo. I might fit right in.

Hit up the guys on Subguns too. Lots of guys there from PA. If you can put together an announcement I can post it over on GT's Free Fire Zone, THR, and TFL. I know someone that can post over on Glockpost too.

Probably a bit far ( Nevada ) , but I just spent one of the best days in my firearms history at a machinegun shoot in Nevada this last Sunday the 18th.

The shoot was the 17th and 18th of October....only 30 minutes from Reno... put on by this group ... http://mustangrange.org/ .... It was the most fun with clothes on I have had in years

Here was the original ad.....

It was setup by the best group of men and women I have had the pleasure to deal with in a long time concerning firearms....not a person with an attitude in the whole bunch...it was a fantastic day.

I would have to say the best machinegun was the M134 MiniGun....something about 3,000 rounds a minute gets your heart pumping and the ground shaking. The M60 was a hoot too....and then surprisingly the full auto suppressed 9mm's were a blast as well ( I could only shoot the non or light recoiling shoulder mounted weapons this year as I am recovering from shoulder surgery...next year in June I plan on shooting more of the 7.62x51 shoulder firing weapons )

Things look like they're shaping up quite well

midterms are slowing things down... but next week it should be back up to speed.
