Default Chip McCormick vs Mec-Gar 1911 Mags

I've been looking for more Mec-Gar 1911 Blue 8rd with the pad, but i cant seem to locate any.

I have one and compared to the factory i want to buy like 5 more!
but unfortunately every where i look is sold out.

So i was wondering if the Chip McCormick mags are at least halfway decent as the mec-gar ones?

Take a look at the Ed Brown 8-pack mags as well. Very well built, smooth and my current favorites for 8 round mags with a bump pad.

Im sure they are all great magazines but the flawless quietly smooth loading experience with the cheap mec-gar mag has kind of soured my taste for expensive magazines.

I have a number of Wilson and Mec-Gar mags and they are both very good. I haven't had a single failure with the Meg-Gars and they are half the price of the Wilson mags.

Never tried the Chip Mc. ones

That's why I run the Chip McCormicks. For the price of Wilson's, I have twice as many mags and they run 100% reliably.

I bought a Wilson 10-rd and the thing had more problems than my crappy 8-rounder that came with my Rock Island.

It also has that funny plastic piece that makes me a bit nervous.

i cant be stingy, i did order mine first though
http://www.shootersplus.com/

flat rate shipping and live inventory updating.
they have all the mag brands people have listed in this thread at decent prices.

i ordered 2 of the mec-gars mags and the qty dropped instantly on the site.
if its one thing i hate more than back orders, its unlisted back orders.

I bought a bunch of chip mcormick shooting star mags a couple years ago because they were on sale for like $12.00. They work great! Some of my factory Les Baer mags were giving me problems and they went away when i started using these mags...

I did buy one wilson mag before and it works great also... but at $29.00 ea, I couldn't buy as many as the chips.

Kind of OT, but has anyone used ACT/NOVAK mags? I think they are the mags that S&W 1911s used to come with from factory and they were very smooth. I never used it at the range so I don't know if they feed well...anyone?

ACT/NOVAK are MecGar mags. They rock. I don't use them because they are a little more expensive than the CMC's, and I've always used CMC's without issue.

I use blued CMC Shooting Stars and I've never had any problems. They work with all three 1911s I own or owned - a Kimber Custom II, a Les Baer Concept II, and a Springfield Custom Carry.

My 10's are not hard to load. They get easier with use and break-in. I also have a few Novaks, the run good, but I prefer the CMC's, mine are all stainless.

For mags that have feeding problems. I have found this quick and easy way to usually fix the problem. Take a Dremel with a small buffing wheel and you can polish the inside with some compound or metal polish. Also polish up the follower. Stainless polishes up nice and easy.

+1 on this. I have one CMC and several Mecgars (and a handful of other mags), and much prefer the smooth, glossy Mecgars. That said, I only have one 1911, and don't shoot it a huge amount because of the ammo cost, but my Mecgars are my favorite mags for it.
